it was amazing

I've decided that I want to read along with my kids as they read books for fun/class so I've started with this book which is apparently VERY popular with my son's 3rd grade classmates. My son had finished it and was two new books ahead of me by the time I finally sat down to read it, but he couldn't wait for me to finish so I could talk with him about it. I was surprised the book didn't frighten him at all considering the book is all about giants who snatch children from their beds in the middle of the night while they are sleeping and eat them! It tells me he has matured a lot as a reader in that he appreciates the story for exactly what it is, just a story, and not something he has to believe. I wouldn't have know that about him if I hadn't actually read the book myself.

I like the story for how it takes the reader around the world with these giants who could care less about humans, all except for the BFG. It also gives a child hope that even one small kid can make a difference. Roald Dahl is not an author I would have initially chosen to read because I don't usually care for fantasy, however I like his appeal to kids, especially my own.
