ON presenting The COMMON-SENSE BOOK to the Public, the Editor most respectfully begs to state that the greater part of the present number had been for some time in the hands of the publisher, when, with infinite satisfaction, he observed, "The Right Honourable Secretary for Foreign Affairs" to take (upon the opening of parliament) a similar line of argument on the important "South American Question," as in the Manuscript of The COMMON-SENSE BOOK had been previously advanced. This most encouraging coincidence having induced him, to consider more maturely the design proposed; he determined to make arrangements for the periodical continuance of this work (alternate months) upon the following simple basis: 1. To concentrate the wide range of popular discussion, to some point of useful practicability. B |
