Safe unto the promised rest ;
Let us slumber on Thy breast. 2 Feed us with the heavenly manna,
Bread that angels eat above ;
Drink of everlasting love. 3 Through the desert wild conduct us
With a glorious pillar bright,
And a cheering fire by night. 4 Be our Guide in every peril,
Watch us hourly night and day; Otherwise we err and wander
From Thy Spirit far away.
915 1 Hail, Thou God of grace and glory,
Who Thy Name hast magnified By redemption's wondrous story,
By the Saviour crucified. 2 Thanks to Thee for every blessing
Flowing from the fount of love; Thanks for present good unceasing,
And for hopes of bliss above.
3 Hear us, as thus bending lowly
Near Thy bright and burning throne, We invoke Thee, God Most Holy,
Through Thy well-beloved Son!
4 Send the baptism of Thy Spirit,
Shed the pentecostal fire;
Waken, crown each good desire.
5 In Thy presence we are happy;
In Thy presence we're secure; In Thy presence all afflictions
We can easily endure :
5 Bind Thy people, Lord, in union,
With the sevenfold cord of love; Breathe a spirit of communion
With the glorious hosts above.
6 In Thy presence we can conquer,
We can suffer, we can die ;
Lord, our Saviour, keep us nigh!
6 Let Thy work be seen progressing;
Bow each heart and bend each knee; Till the world Thy truth possessing,
Celebrates its Jubilee.
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee 1 ETERNAL FATHER, strong to save,
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea! Whose arm hath bound the restless
917 wave, Who bid'st the mighty ocean deep
1 While o'er the deep Thy servants sail, Its own appointed limits keep;
Send Thou, O Lord, the prosperous Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
gale; For those in peril on the sea !
And on their hearts, where'er they go,
Oh let Thy heavenly breezes blow. 2 O Christ, whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word, 2 If on the morning's wings they fly, Who walkedst on the foaming deep,
They will not pass beyond 'Thine eye ; And calm amidst its rage didst sleep; The wanderer's prayer Thou bend'st Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
to hear, For those in peril on the sea !
And faith exults to know Thee near. 3 Most Holy Spirit, who didst brood
3 When tempests rock the groaning bark, Upon the chaos dark and rude,
Oh hide them safe in Jesus' ark;
When in the tempting port they ride, Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
Oh keep them safe at Jesus' side. For those in peril on the sea!
4 If life's wide ocean smile or roar, 4 O Trinity of love and power,
Still guide them to the heavenly shore; Our brethren shield in danger's hour; And grant their dust in Christ may From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
sleep, Protect them wheresoe'er they go: Abroad, at home, or in the deep.
