NOTE.

THE reader will find various styles of typography and various modes of spelling proper names and words on the pages of this work. Our purpose has been to follow the fashion of printing which prevailed at the time the newspapers, from which extracts have been taken, were printed, and also to adhere to the orthography of those journals as indulged in during the whole of the eighteenth century. This will be particularly observable in the advertisements of the almanacs which appeared towards the close of that century, in which, as well as in other instances, we have endeavored to give an idea of the manner of display prevalent at the time.
