The Indians who infest the frontiers, and attack the caravans and traders, are all mounted on fleet and durable horses, which live on and go, like Arabs-the attack and the flight being grass, and are trained to war and hunting. They come, instantaneous. Our soldiers are all on foot, and can oppose no appropriate movements to these sudden and flying assaults. Purchasers of the Public Lands.
