and slew mighty kings;
Sihon king of the Amorites,
and Og king of Bashan,
and all the kingdoms of Canaan :
And gave their land for an heritage,
an heritage to the Israelites, his own people.
Thy fame, O Jehovah, is eternal !
and thy memorial, O Jehovah, throughout all

generations.
For Jehovah will judge his people,
and he will repent himself concerning his servants.
The idols of the heathen are silver and gold,
the work of men's hands.
They have mouths, but they speak not ;
eyes have they, but they see not :
They have ears, but they hear not;
neither is there any breath in their mouths.

They that make them are like unto them.
..so is every one that trusteth in them.

Bless JEHOVAH, O house of Israel :
bless JEHOVAH, O house of Aaron :
Bless Jehovah, O house of Levi:
ye that fear JEHOVAH, bless JEHOVAH,
Blessed be JEHOVAH out of Sion,

PSALM CXXXVI.

O GIVE thanks unto Jehovah, for he is good : for his mercy endureth for ever. O give thanks unto the God of gods : for his mercy endureth for ever.

O give thanks to the LORD of lords : for his mercy endureth for ever. To him who alone doeth great wonders : for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that by wisdom made the heavens : for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that stretched out the earth above the waters : for his mercy endureth for ever. To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever. The sun to rule by day : for his mercy endureth for ever : The moon and stars to rule by night : for his mercy endureth for ever : To him that smote Egypt in their first-born: for his mercy endureth for ever: And brought out Israel from among them : for his mercy endureth for ever : With a strong hand, and with a stretched-out arm: 12 for his mercy endureth for ever. PSALM CXXXVII.

BY the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down,
yea, we wept, when we remembered Sion.
We hanged our harps upon the willows
in the midst thereof.
For there they that carried us away captive
required of us a song ;
and they that wasted us required of us mirth,
saying, Sing us one of the songs of Sion.
How shall we sing JEHOVAH's song in a strange

land?
If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand be forgotten.
If I do not remember thee,

let my tongue cleave to my palate; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy. Remember, O JEHOVAH, the children of Edom 7 in the day of Jerusalem ; who said, Rase, rase it to its very foundation. O city Babylon, who art doomed to destruction, 8 happy he, who rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. Happy he that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

PSALM CXXXVIII.

A PSALM OF DAVID. I WILL praise thee with my whole heart : before the chiefs will I sing praise unto thee. I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth : for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. In the day, when I cried, thou answeredst me, :3 and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O JEHO- 4

VAH, when they hear the words of thy mouth. Yea, they shall sing in the ways of JEHOVAH : for great is the glory of Jehovah. Though Jehovah be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly : but the proud he regardeth at a distance. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me : thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies,

and thy right hand shall save me.
JEHOVAH will perfect that which concerneth me:
thy mercy, O Jehovah, endureth for ever :
forsake not the works of thine own hands.

PSALM CXXXIX.
TO THE CHIEF MUSICIAN; A PSALM OF DAVID.
1 O JEHOVAH, thou hast searched and tried me.
Thou knowest my down-sitting and mine up-

rising,
thou understandest my thought. '
Thou compassest my path and my lying down,

and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue,

but, lo, O JEHOVAH, thou knowest it thoroughly. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before,

and laid thine hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit?
or whither shall I flee from thy presence ?
Should I mount up into heaven, thou art there :
should I make my bed in hell, behold thou art

there.
9 . If I take the wings of the morning, .,

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me,
and thy right hand shall hold me.
Should I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me;

even the night shall be light about me: 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee;
