Remember now thy Creator.

1 'REMEMBER thy Creator'

In life's young morning-Now!
Ere sorrow's hand impresses
Its furrows on thy brow:
While life's bright sun is smiling,
And care is distant yet,
Heed not the songs that tempt thee
Thy Maker to forget.

2 Remember thy Creator'

The God who gave thee birth,
And strews thy path with mercies
On this His beauteous earth;
Before the dark clouds gather,
And evil days appear,

And storms and lengthening shadows
Tell that the night is near.

3 Remember thy Creator'-
The God who reigns above;
'Tis life to taste His favour,
And heaven is in His love.
O may His rich salvation

Dawn on thy youthful heart,
And grant true consolation

When earth's fair joys depart !

LIFE AND PRIVILEGES OF BELIEVERS.

Repentance.

1 "Tis not enough to say,

We're sorry and repent;

S.M.

89

Yet still go on, from day to day,
Just as we always went.
2 Repentance is to leave

The sins we loved before,

And show that we in earnest grieve
By doing so no more.

The Touch of Faith.

1 As the Saviour passed along,
Many people did Him throng;
But they had not any need,
Therefore Jesus did not heed.

7's.

2 One who knew the Lord could bless
Came behind Him in the press;
All physicians else had failed,
But the touch of faith prevailed.
3 All who feel their need of grace
Seek the mighty Saviour's face;
And to power His love is joined—
All who truly seek shall find.
4 He relieves all sin-sick hearts;
Rest, and health, and peace imparts;
Though oppressed with fear and doubt,
He will never cast them out.

The Fear of God.

1 THERE is a fear that knows no dread,
A filial, childlike, godly fear:

Known 'tis to those whom grace has led
To find in God a Father here.

L.M.

2 They know the dreadful plague of sin, They know the worth of pardoning blood; They know nought else can make them clean, And fit to stand before the Lord.

3 This filial fear the Christian moves To live, and walk, and act for God; And while he's travelling homeward, proves His feet are in the heavenly road. 4 Moved with this fear they journey on, Depending on unchanging love,

Ascribing praise to God alone

For the sweet hope of life above.
5 And here they sometimes have a taste
Of that eternal heavenly rest,

To which their longing spirits haste,
And where they'll be for ever blest.

191

True Prosperity.

1 THE man or child is blessed

Who shuns the sinners' ways,
Among their councils never stands,
Nor takes the scorner's place;
2 But makes the law of God
His study and delight,
Amidst the labours of the day,
And watches of the night.
3 He like a tree shall thrive
With water near its root;

Fresh as a leaf his name shall live ;
His works are heavenly fruit.

S.M.

192

4 God knows and well approves
The way the righteous go;

But sinners and their works shall meet
A dreadful overthrow.

The Only Resting-Place.

1 As needles point towards the pole,
When touched by the magnetic stone;
So faith in Jesus gives the soul
A tendency before unknown.
2 Till then, by blinded passions led,
In search of fancied good we range;
The paths of disappointment tread,
To nothing fixed but love of change.
3 But when the Holy Ghost imparts
A knowledge of the Saviour's love,
Then wandering, weary, restless hearts
Are fixed at once on things above.
4 Now a new principle takes place,
Which guides and animates the will;
This love (another name for grace)
Constrains to good, and bars from ill.
193
True Religion.

1 RELIGION! Who the blessing finds?
How little is it known!
The glory of immortal minds,
Yet thousands it disown.
2 Religion! O the heavenly power
When in the heart it reigns!
The living and the dying hour
It comforts and sustains.

L.M.

C. M.

3 Religion! 'tis the greatest good,
When pure and undefiled,
When humble sinners are to God
Brought near and reconciled.

4 Religion smooths life's rugged way,
It makes the bitter sweet,
And will, in heaven's eternal day,
Be glorious and complete.

194

Happiness of the Justified.

1 THEY who are justified,
Whose sins are all forgiven,
They who, renewed by sovereign grace,
Are qualified for heaven;

2 May triumph in their God,
And tune to praise their breath,
Amidst the roughest storms of life,
Amidst the floods of death.
3 Th' eternal God is theirs,
And they are ever His ;
The children of adopting grace,
The heirs of endless bliss.
4 Garments of joy and praise,
Rich robes of righteousness,
More bright, more lasting than the sun,
Are their ennobling dress.

195

Godliness Profitable.

1 How vast the blessings, how divine,
From godliness which flow!

Nor men, nor angels, should they join,
Can half its value show.
