10 unto me, tarry not: And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be near unto me, thou, and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks, and thy herds, and all that 11 thou hast: And there will I nourish thee; for yet there are five years of famine; lest thou, and thy household, and all that thou 12 hast, come to poverty. And, behold, your eyes see, and the eyes my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaketh unto 13 you. And ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of

of

10 In the land of Goshen.] And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Israel his father, to Goshen, and presented himself unto him; and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while. And Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die, since I have seen thy face, because thou art yet alive. And Joseph said unto his brethren, and unto his father's house, I will go up, and shew Pharaoh, and say unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me; and the men are shepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have. And it shall come to pass, when Pharaoh shall call you, and shall say, What is your occupation? that ye shall say, Thy servants' trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers. That ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians. Ge. xlvi. 29-34. Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh (that his father and brethren were in the land of Goshen), and he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh; and Pharaoh said unto them, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds; for to sojourn in the land are we come ; we pray thee let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen. And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, The land of Egypt is before thee. In the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell. And if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle. Ge. xlvii. 1-6. And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies (as a plague) shall be there (said the Lord), to the end thou mayest know, that I am the Lord in the midst of the earth. Ex. viii. 22. Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail (as a plague). Ex. ix. 26.

And thou shalt be near unto me.] In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you: I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am there ye may be also. John xiv. 2, 3. Father, I will (said Jesus) that they also whom thou hast

given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me, for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. John xvii. 24.

11 There will I nourish thee.] The land of Egypt is before thee, said Pharaoh to Joseph. And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh. And Jacob blessed Pharaoh. And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou? And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years. And Joseph placed his father and his brethren in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families. Ge. xlvii. 6-8. 11, 12. “Ye” (“Scribes and Pharisees") say, Whosoever shall say to kis father or his mother, It is a gift by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; and honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Mat. xv. 5, 6. Full well (said Jesus to the Pharisees) ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death. ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is corban, that is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me, he shall be free, and ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother. Mar. vii. 9-12. If any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents, for that is good and acceptable before God. 1 Ti. v. 4.

But

12 Your eyes see.] And they knew not that Joseph understood them; for he spake unto them by an interpreter. Ge. xlii. 23 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me and see. Lu. xxiv. 39. Then saith he (Jesus) to Thomas (his unbe lieving disciple), Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand and thrust it into my side, and be not faithless, but believing. John xx. 27.

all that ye have seen; and ye shall haste and bring down my father hither. And he fell upon his brother Benjamin's neck, and wept; 14 and Benjamin wept upon his neck. Moreover he kissed all his 15 brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him. And the fame thereof was heard in Pharaoh's house, 16 saying, Joseph's brethren are come: and it pleased Pharaoh well, and his servants. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, say unto thy 17 brethren, This do ye; lade your beasts, and go, get you unto the

of time, the Spirit of Christ which was in them, did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Now thou art commanded, this do ye; take you wagons out of the land of Egypt for your little ones, and for your wives, and bring your father, and come. 20 Also regard not your stuff; for the good of all the land of Egypt is

did he unto them. And they laded their asses with corn, and departed thence. Ge. xlii. 25, 26. And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth, and put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn-money. Ge. xliv. 1, 2.

18 The fat of the land.] God give thee of the dew of heaven (said Isaac in blessing Jacob), and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine. Ge. xxvii. 28. The land of Egypt is before thee (said Pharaoh to Joseph); in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell. Ge. xlvii. 6. All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, &c. them have I given "thee" ("Aaron"). 19 Commanded, &c.] Listen, O isles unto me, and hearken ye people from far. The Lord hath called me (the Church of Christ) from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. And to the others he (the Lord) said in my hearing, Go ye after him (the man clothed with white lines, having the writer's inkhorn by his side, and ordered to mark the foreheads of the men that sigh and cry for the abominations of Jerusalem) through the city, and smite; let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity. To all of them he gave each man 22 changes of raiment; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver, and five changes of raiment. And to his father he sent 23 after this manner; ten asses laden with the good things of Egypt, and ten she asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his

man his sword; and they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword; and there went up after David about four hundred men, and two hundred abode by the stuff. 1 Sa. xxv. 13. Who will hearken unto you in this matter (said David to those wicked men who said, Because they, who tarried by the stuff, we will not give them ought of the spoil)? Ps.

Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard, and went down to the skirts of his garments. As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion. cxxxiii. Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Phi. ii. 2—5. Put on therefore as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another. If any man have a quarrel against any, even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Col. iii. 12, 13. And we beseech you brethren to know them which labour among you. And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves. 1 Th. v. 13.

Thus his father wept for him (Joseph). Ge. xxxvii. 35. And Jacob their father said unto them, Me have ye bereaved of my children; Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and ye will take Benjamin away: all these things are against me. And he said, My son shall not go down with thee; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone. If mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave. Ge. xlii. 36, 38. And the one (of my sons, said Jacob) went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I saw him not since. Ge. xliv. 28. Ps. cxxvi. 1. And their words (of Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, respecting Christ's resurrection) seemed to them (the apostles) as idle tales, and they believed them not. And while they yet believed not for joy (when Jesus himself afterwards appeared in the midst of them), and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat! &c. Lu. xxiv. 11. 41.

27 The spirit of Jacob their father revived.] And he (Samson) was sore athirst; but God clave an hollow place that was in the jas (of the ass), and there came water thereout. and when he had drunk his spirit came again, and he revived. Ju. xv. 19. And they (David and his four hundred men pursuing,
