This is an uncommonly interesting book. It is the simple and unvarnished narrative of an intelligent Sailor, who was for six years in the British and American navies; was captured by Decatur in the British ship Macedonian; and gives the details of that bloody conflict in the most graphic and thrilling style. He afterwards entered the American navy, and was taken in the United States' brig Syren, by the British ship Medway.

It is the truest picture of a Mariner's “World ever written. Commodore Nicholson, of the United States' Navy, who was an officer on board the same ship with Mr. Leech, highly recommends this book.
