March 25.

I am the resurrection and the life.-JOHN xi. 25.

RESURRECTION birth

Each year awaits the earth,

Awaking from their sleep the flower and tree;
And God, in whom we live,

Unto our souls doth give

Faith in a glorious future yet to be

Breathed in the blessed words, with comfort rife, "I am the Resurrection and the Life."

March 26.

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.-REV. V. 12.

JOIN,

I, ye redeemed heirs of grace,
In a new song of lofty praise;

Jesus is worthy to receive
The utmost glories ye can give.

Worthy, thou dear atoning Lamb,
From ev'ry kindred, tongue, or name;
Thou hast redeem'd us by Thy blood,
And made us kings and priests to God.

March 27.

A man shall be as an hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest.-ISA. xxxii. 2.

HEN rising wind and rain descending,

[ocr errors]

A near approaching storm declare,

With trembling speed, their wings extending,
The birds to sheltering trees repair.

So I, by faith, with sin oppressed,

Would refuge take, O Christ, in Thee;
Thou art my hiding-place and rest,
From every evil shelter me.

March 28.

Be not faithless, but believing.-JOHN xx. 27.

HOUGH heavy clouds of sorrow

Make dark thy path to-day,

There may shine forth to-morrow
Once more a cheering ray.

Doubts, griefs, and foes assailing,
Conceal heaven's fair abode,
Yet now faith's power prevailing,
Should stay thy mind on God.

March 29.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.-LUKE X. 27.

OVE God, and love thy neighbour as thyself.

Sublime epitome! a rule of life

Abridged enough for the scant memory
Of early childhood—a whole Gospel written
In one grand line-a Bible in a word
Brought to a focus, like the mighty sun
Through some great lens, to burn up sin and grief,
And make the world a minor Paradise.

March 30.

Be clothed with humility.-1 PET. v. 5.

HE bird that soars on highest wing

Builds on the ground her lowly nest;
And she that doth most sweetly sing,
Sings in the shade when all things rest.
In lark and nightingale we see
What honour hath humility.

When Mary chose "the better part,"
She meekly sat at Jesus' feet;

And Lydia's gently opened heart

Was made for God's own temple meet.
Fairest and best adorned is she

Whose clothing is humility.

March 31.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. PHIL. iv. 13.

I

GLORY in infirmity,

That Christ's own power may rest on me; When I am weak, then I am strong;

Grace is my shield, and Christ my song.

I can do all things, or can bear
All sufferings, if my Lord be there;
Sweet pleasures mingle with the pains,
While His Almighty hand sustains.

My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.JOHN vi. 55.

B1

READ of heaven! on Thee I feed,

For Thy flesh is meat indeed.
Ever may my soul be fed

With this true and living bread;
Day by day with strength supplied
Through the life of Him who died.
Vine of heaven! Thy blood supplies
This blest cup of sacrifice:
'Tis Thy wounds my healing give;
To Thy cross I look and live.
Thou, my life! O let me be
Rooted, grafted, Lord, in Thee!

One is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.MATT. Xxiii. 8.

IN

one fraternal bond of love,

One fellowship of mind,

The saints below, and saints above,
Their bliss and glory find.

Lord, may our union form a part

Of that thrice-happy whole;

Derive its pulse from Thee, the Heart,
Its life from Thee, the Soul.

April 3.

This commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.-1 JOHN iv. 21.

UR God is love, and all His saints

His image bear below;

The heart with love to God inspired
With love to man will glow.

Teach us to love each other, Lord,

As we are loved of Thee;
For none are truly born of God

Who live in enmity.
