February 14.

I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.-ISA. xliv. 22.

[blocks in formation]

But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.-Isa. xliii. 1.

RT thou friendless and alone?

Hast none on whom thou canst confide?

God careth for thee, lonely one,

Comfort and help He will provide.

He sees thy sorrows and thy hidden grief;
He knoweth when to send thee quick relief.

February 16.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousress.-ISA. xli. 10.

E

EAR thou not, for I am with thee;"

Child of God, be this thy stay;
God, the mighty God, is with thee,
Yielding comfort by the way.

"Fear thou not, for I am with thee;"
"Fear thou not "O precious voice!
"I will strengthen, help, uphold thce.".
Child of God, in this rejoice.

February 17.

Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud and he shall hear my voice.-Ps. lv. 17.

THEN is the time for prayer?

W

In every hour, while life is spared to thee;

In crowds or solitude, in joy or care,

Thy thoughts should heavenward flee.

At home-at morn and eve-with loved ones there

Bend thou the knee in prayer.

February 18.

Ask, and it shall be given you.-MATT. vii. 7.

SK, and it shall be given,

Though your words are faint and few,

For 'midst the surging multitude,

The touch of faith He knew.

Though the air be rent with asking,

And the people clam'rous be,

Ask full of faith and hoping,
It shall be given thee.

February 19.

At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth. -PHIL. ii. 10.

AME of Jesus! we adore it,

All its glories who can tell?

Every knee shall bow before it,
Or in heaven, or earth, or hell!

Jesus well deserves our praises,

'Tis by Him we come to God; By His death our souls He raises,

Gives us pardon through His blood.

February 20.

It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.-JOHN xvi. 7.

UR blest Redeemer, ere He breathed

His tender last farewell,

A Guide, a Comforter bequeathed,

With us to dwell.

Spirit of purity and grace,

Our weakness pitying see,

O make our hearts Thy dwelling-place,
And worthier Thee !

Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.-Isa. lv. 1.

H, fount of grace that runneth o'er,

So full, so vast, so free!

Are none too worthless, none too poor.

To come and take of Thee.

"Tis ours to ask and to receive;

To take, and not to buy:

'Tis thine, in sovereign grace, to give

Yea, give abundantly.

February 22.

Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.-HEB. vi. 19.

HAT hope be mine! that anchor of the soul,

Stedfast and sure, howe'er life's billows roll,
Which, grappling fast its unseen ground doth lie
Deep in the ocean of eternity,

And binds us to that blest and boundless shore,
Where the great Captain, landed safe before,
Now waits to welcome home each wave-worn bark :
Oh, be that hope my anchor, heaven my mark.

By faith ye stand.—2 COR. i. 24.

TRANGERS, pilgrims, here below,
Travelling to fair Canaan's land,

Lean on Jesus as ye go,

For by faith alone ye stand.

Trust the Lord in life, in death,

Trust your all in Jesus' hand;
Trust Him with your latest breath,
For by faith alone ye stand.
