November 30.

Let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might.-JUDGES V. 31.

ET them that love Thy glorious name

Shine like the sun, divinely bright:
With heavenly love their souls shall flame,
While wond'ring earth admires the sight.
Peculiar lustre shall adorn

And bless their last declining hour,
The pledge of that approaching morn,
When they shall rise to set no more.

December 1.

God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. -1 COR. X. 13.

B

E not weary, tempted Christian,

Sin can only lure on earth;
Faith is tried by sore temptation-
"Tis the furnace proves its worth.
Bounds are set unto the tempter,
Which beyond he cannot go ;
Battle on, on God relying,

Faith will overcome the foe.

December 2.

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience.-REV.

ii. 2.

O, labour on; spend and be spent,

Thy joy to do thy Father's will;

It is the way the Master went,
Should not the servant tread it still?
Go, labour on; 'tis not for nought

All earthly loss is heavenly gain;
Men heed thee not, men praise thee not:
The Master praises; what are men?
Go, labour on; enough, enough,

If Jesus praise thee; if He deign

To notice e'en thy willing mind,
No toil for Him shall be in vain.

By love serve one another.-GAL. v. 13.

W

can serve in every station:

None so weak, or none so small.

None so poor, or none so lowly,
That they cannot serve at all.
We can serve in every station,

If with loving hearts and true,
We will seek to know our duty,
And our daily task to do.

December 4.

His anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.-Ps. xxx. 5.

ONG and mournful is the night,

Mental night of gloomy fear;

Source of comfort, source of light,
When, oh when, wilt thou appear?
Thy beams alone can bid the gloom depart,
And spread celestial morning o'er my heart.

Morning of that glorious day

Which the blest enjoy above,

Where, with full unclouded ray,

Shines thy everlasting love;

Where joy triumphant fills the bright abode :
O happy world! fair paradise of God!

December 5.

Thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live.-AMOS v. 4.

EEK: ye shall surely find Him,

Though perhaps you're young and weak;

Or may be old and careworn,

And great is He you seek:

But seek Him in frost and sunshine,

Through the storms and bitter blast,

And He who is strength and glory

Shall stand revealed at last.

December 6.

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest.-HEB. iv. 11.

I

HEAR a voice at dawn of day,

And to my heart it seems to say,
When sorrow dims hope's brightest ray,
"There's rest in heaven."

Blest words! which tell of naught but joy,
Of endless rest without alloy;

Well may they oft our thoughts employ-
"There's rest in heaven."

Spirit of life and love divine,

Subdue my heart and make it Thine,
That I may dwell upon, as mine,
That "rest in heaven."

December 7.

The eyes of them that see shall not be dim. —ISA. xxxii. 3. PEN our eyes, thou Sun of life and gladness,

That we may see that glorious world of Thine; It shines for us in vain, while drooping sadness Enfolds us here like mists: come, Power benign. Touch our chilled hearts with vernal smile,

Our wintry course do Thou beguile,

Nor by the wayside ruins let us mourn,

Who have the eternal towers for our appointed bourn.

December 8.

My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.-Ps. xlii. 2.

I

THIRST, but not as once I did,

The vain delights of earth to share ;
Thy wounds, Emmanuel, all forbid

That I should seek my pleasures there.

It was the sight of Thy dear cross

First weaned my soul from earthly things,
And taught me to esteem as dross
The mirth of fools, and pomp of kings.

December 9.

She said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole. But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole.-MATT. ix. 21, 22.

SK, and it shall be given,

Though your words are faint and few;

For 'midst the surging multitude

The touch of faith He knew.

Though the air be rent with askings,

And the people clamorous be;

Ask, full of faith and hoping,

It shall be given thee.
