TO SUBSCRIBERS AND CORRESPONDENTS.

It is with great reluctance that we have found ourselves under the necessity of again postponing "Wanderings in the Land of Hafiz;" A Sketch of the Olden Time, by MRS. H.;"-" Cruel Friendship,"-" The Miser;" and many other favours from muchesteemed correspondents.

"A Visit to the Monastery of Kreugberg, in Bavaria, in the Autumn of 1825," is not without merit; but, on various accounts, it is unsuitable to the pages of LA BELLE ASSEMBLEE.

The same remark applies to the Essay "On the Effects of the Olympic Games."
All "BRIDGET'S" favours, we are happy to say, prove acceptable.

We shall experience a melancholy pleasure in complying with the wishes of our valued correspondent, "MRS. C. B. WILSON," next month, if her communication do not, in the interim, find its way into some other periodical work.

We are fearful that, were it to be inserted, "An Epistle from the Italian," would, by the readers of LA BELLE ASSEMBLEE, be taken for Greek.

"I. D. R." may be a good writing-master; of which, however, we have our doubts : at all events, Nature never meant him for a conjurer.

"Sketches from my Diary," No. III., as early as possible.

Also "Lady Isabel of Glenallon."

"The Lover and the Bride" shall speedily be introduced to our fair readers.

In some early moment of happiness, "The Island of Bliss" shall be depicted.

"A Tale of the Convent, or the Legend of the Seven Chapters," is under consideration. By some accident, we presume, only a portion of "A Daughter's Apostrophe to a Departed Mother" has reached us.

"The Death of Herod" is of too "lengthy" and lingering a character.

The stanzas On the Death of an Infant," and " On Pity," by DAVEY, might possibly be deemed rather curious as the productions of an uneducated person; but they are without genuine interest.

"Star of the Morn," and another poetical morceau, from our amiable young friend, "E. M. P.," shall very speedily appear.

"Irish Sketches, No. I.," do not suit us.

Neither do " England's Eccentricities, No. I.”

[ocr errors]

Eden Castle, a Ballad," is reserved for early insertion.

Thanks to our kind friend "W. C. S." of York. Part I. of his "Rosalie Somers,” promises well: we hope, therefore, very shortly to receive Part II., that our opinion upon the whole may be formed.

"Love in Paradise" has reached us safely, and, we have the pleasure of adding, is accepted.

"Present and Future" stands high upon our list.

"Lines on the Death of "shall be inserted at our earliest convenience.

So, also, shall the lines "On the Spey."

"The Skylark's Song" is not without sweetness; but its length would render it tedious.

We do not feel disposed to trouble “L. F.”

The fair author of accepted stanzas "On the Death of Mary Queen of Scots," will probably have received a private communication from us before this can meet her eye. We feel ourselves particularly obliged by the polite and flattering attention of the author of "Lines to the Memory of Brother Thomas," &c.; but we cannot at present avail ourselves of her offer. Such favours, unless of a very high order, are always gratuitous.
