Answer. The return of the Lord Jesus Christ in glory, as saith the Scripture, "Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great our Saviour Jesus

Christ" (Tit. ii. 18).

"Christ was once for all offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for Him shall He appear a second time without sin unto salvation" (Heb. ix. 28),

The Lord Himself shall de"scend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall

"God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil" (Eccl. xii. 14).

And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat upon it, from Whose Face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the book, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found-written in the Book of Life was east into the lake of fire" (Rev. xx. 11-15).

TION OF BAPTISM.

When Persons are to be baptized, timely notice shall be given to the Minister; that so due care may be taken for their examination, whether they be suffictently instructed in the Principles of the Christian Religion, and prepared to come in Repentance and Faith to this holy Ordinance.

And if they shall be found fit, then may they present themselves, with their
Witnesses, immediately after the second Lesson at any stated service or at such
time as the Minister in his discretion shall appoint."
Then shall the Minister sayi

EAR the words of the Gospel written by Matthew the Evangelist in the twenty-eighth Chapter, beginning at the sixteenth verse.

HEN the eleven disciples Twent away into Galilee,

into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, say ing, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

ELOVED, ye hear in this

mand which our Saviour Christ gave to His disciples; saying, Go ye and teach all hations, baptizing them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; whereby ye perceive the obligation of this Divine Ordinance, where it may be had. For which cause Peter the Apostle, when upon his first preaching of the Gospel many were pricked at the heart, and said to him and the rest of the apostles. Men and brethren, what shall we do? said unto them, Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our

God shall call. So, in reply to the inquiry of the jailor, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? Paul and Silas answered and said, Believe on the Lord Jesus. and thy house. Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And after they had spoken unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house, they baptized him and all his straightway (Acts xvi. 3). Furthermore, in the tenth Chapter of the Epistle to the trasts the righteousness which is Romans, Paul the Apostle couof the law with the righteousness which is of faith, and makes the latter speak on this wise; If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom, x. 6-10),

EARN therefore, beloved,

from these Scriptures that Repentance and Faith, the work of the Holy Spirit, must be accompanied with the confession of the mouth in Baptism. And be ye assured that God doth graciously receive all who truly repent and come unto Him by faith; that He doth grant them the remission of their sins, and doth strengthen them by His indwelling Spirit, and that He will carry on the good work which He has begun in them unto the day of Jesus Christ.

Wherefore, we being thus persuaded of the good-will of our heavenly Father towards these

Persons, truly repenting and believing in His Son Jesus Christ: let us faithfully and devoutly give thanks to Him, and say:

LMIGHTY and everlasting

A God, Heavenly Father, we

give Thee humble thanks, for that Thou hast vouchsafed to call us

to the knowledge of Thy grace,

and faith in Thee. Increase this

Question. Wilt thou then obediently keep God's holy will and commandments, and walk in the same all the days of thy life?

Answer. I will, by God's help.
Then shall the Minister say:

LMIGHTY, everliving God. A Whose most dearly-beloved knowledge, and confirm this faith Son, Jesus Christ, gave commandin us evermore. Bless these Thyment to His disciples, that they Bless these Thy should go and teach all nations, servants, now about to make open and baptize them into the name profession of their Faith, and grant that, being kept by Thy of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; Regard, perpetual mercy, they may conwe beseech Thee, our supplicatinue steadfast in the confession of Thy Holy Name, through Jesus tions, and grant that the Persons now to be baptized may ever continue among the number of Thy faithful children; and may walk worthy of the vocation wherewith they have been called; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Christ our Lord, Amen.

Then the Minister shall say to the
Persons to be baptized:

WE

ELL-BELOVED, who are come hither desiring to be baptized, ye have heard how the congregation hath prayed, that our merciful Father would vouchsafe to bless you, and to keep you by His grace. Ye know also the assurance given us by Christ Himself, that, He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; which promise, He, for His part, will most surely keep and perform.

Wherefore, after this promise made by our gracious Lord Himself, ye must also faithfully, for your part, in the presence of these your Witnesses, and this whole congregation, make answer to the following Questions.

Question. Hast thou renounced the devil and all his works, the vain pomp and glory of the world, with all covetous desires of the same, and the sinful desires of the flesh, so that thou wilt not follow, nor be led by them?

Answer. I have renounced them all and by God's help, will endeavour not to follow nor be

led by them.

Question. Dost thou believe all the Articles of the Christian Faith, as as contained in the Apostles' Creed?

Answer. I do.

Question. Wilt thou be baptized in this Faith?

Answer. That is my desire.

Then shall the Minister take each person to be baptized by the right hand and shall ask the Witnesses the Name: and then shall immerse him in the water, or pour water upon him, having first said:

I BAPTIZE thee Into

N. the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Then shall the Minister say:

We receive this Person into the congregation of Christ's Flock, and pray that hereafter he may not be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified, but may manfully fight under His banner, against sin, the world, and the devil; and continue Christ's faithful soldier and servant unto his life's end. Amen.

MORASMUCH as these persons have, in your presence, put on Christ by Baptism, it is your part and duty to remind them, as opportunity may be afforded, or need shall require, of the solemn profession of their faith in Christ, which they have made before this congregation, and specially before you their chosen Witnesses. And ye are also to call upon them to use all diligence to be rightly instructed in God's Holy Word;

that so they may grow in grace.

and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ; and live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.

And then, if occasion offer, speaking to the Baptized he may say:
