His lordship's family is of ancient Welsh origin, claiming descent from CARADOC, and the ancient princes of Wales.

His lordship's father, JOHN CRADOCK, archbishop of Dublin, bishop of Glandelagh, and primate of Ireland, was consecrated bishop of Kilmore, 1757, and translated to the archiepiscopal see of Dublin in 1772.

Crest-On a mount vert, a figure representing an ancient Briton habited proper, kneeling on his left knee, having an eastern crown on his head, and in his right hand a sword erect, pomel upwards and held by the blade.

WILLIAM, 1st lord, who was brought up to the study of the law, called to the bar 1776, elevated to the bench 1792, and in 1803, on the death of lord Kilwarden, appointed chief justice of the King's Bench in Ireland; in 16, he was nominated by H.R.H. the duke of Cumberland, chancellor of the University of Dublin, vice chancellor of that learned body. On the 21st Feb. 1822, he resigned the office of chief justice, and, 10th Dec. that year, was created baron Downes, with remainder, failing issue male of his own body, to his cousin, sir Ulysses Burgh, and the heirs male of his body. His lordship d. unm., 2 March 1826, and was succeeded, pursuant to the above-mentioned limitation, by his said cousin,

His lordship entered early into the army in the corps of which he is now one of the colonels commandant. In 1808, he was appointed gentleman attendant on his majesty king George IV., then prince of Wales, to whom he was afterwards, during the regency, marshal and chief equerry. In 1815, he was knighted, and appointed a knight grand cross of the royal Hanoverian Guelphic order; in 1816, auditor and secretary of the duchy of Cornwall; and in the succeeding year, on the

resignation of the late sir John M'Mahon, receiver-general of that duchy, and private secretary and keeper of the privy purse to the prince regent. In Sept. 1824, he was appointed envoy extraordinary and ministerplenipotentiary to Sweden; and, 14 May 1825, elevated to the peerage of Ireland.

Heir Apparent -The hon. JOHN-A.-D. BLOOMFIELD, his lordship's son.

Creation-14 May 1825.

Arms Argent, three fusils conjoined in fess gules, between as many cinquefoils azure; on a canton of the last the prince of Wales's plume.
