Sir RICHARD PARSONS, 1st viscount Rosse, (great-grandson of sir William Parsons, lord justice of Ireland, who was created a bart., 10 Nov. 1620, and constituted lord justice, 30 Dec. 1641, with sir John Borlase, and continued in the government of Ireland until 23 April 1643,) was created baron Ormantown and viscount Rosse, 2 July 1681, with remainder to the heirs male of his great-grandfather, sir William, lord justice of Ireland. sir William Parsons, lord chief justice of Ireland, was seated at Birr Castle, and was appointed attorney-general and vice-admiral of Munster, and 2d baron of the exchequer. His grandson,

The earl d. without issue male, 20 April 1807, when the viscounty of Oxmantown became extinct, but the barony and earldom descended, pursuant to the limitation, to his nephew, sir Laurence Parsons.

CHARLES AGAR, 1st earl of Normanton, and archbishop of Dublin, was brother of James, 1st viscount Clifden, and son of

Henry Agar, of Gowran Castle, by AnneEllis, only da. of sir John Briscoe, of Amberley Castle, co. Sussex, and sister of Wel

bore Ellis, 1st lord Mendip, who was so
created, 13 Aug. 1794, with special remain-
der to Henry, viscount Clifden, and his
brothers, and to Charles, earl of Norman-
ton. His lordship was b. 22 Dec. 1736: en-
tered into holy orders, and was appointed
chaplain to Hugh, duke of Northumber-
land, K.G., whilst lord-lieutenant of Ire- I
land, in 1763; whence he was promoted to
the deanery of Kilmore: consecrated, 20
March 1768, bishop of Cloyne; consecrated
archbishop of Cashell, 1771; and, in
archbishop of Dublin, bishop of Glar de la, h.
and primate of Ireland. He was created
baron Somerton, co. Kildare, 12 June 176:

York, and d. without issue, 17 Feb. 1764, when the earldom became extinct, but the estates devolved to his nephew,

THE earl claims to derive his descent from a brother of John White, who was lord bishop of Winchester, 1557. The immediate ancestor of this noble family came to Ireland during the civil war which commenced 1641. His descendant in the 4th degree,
