Leicester, in that of the United Kingdom, and a Baronet of Nova Scotia; born 5 Aug. 1833; succeeded his grandfather, George, late earl, 9 June 1837.

JAMES FORBES, 2d lord Forbes, of Scotland, (see that title,) left a younger son, Patrick, of Corsse, from whom descended sir ARTHUR FORBES, of Castle Forbes, co. Longford, born in Scotland, but made a free denizen of Ireland 1622, created a bart. of Nova Scotia, 1628, and d. 1632, leaving a son and heir,

ARTHUR, created, 22 Nov. 1675, baron Clanehugh and viscount Granard, and, 30 Dec. 1684, advanced to the dignity of earl of Granard; and dying 1695, was succeeded by his eldest son,

GEORGE-GODART-HENRY-DE-REEDE GINKELL, EARL of ATHLONE, Baron of Aghrim, co. Galway, Baron de Reede and Ginkell, Baron of Amerongen, Middachier, Livendale, Elst Stervelt, and Ronemberg, in the Netherlands; born 21 Nov. 1820; succeeded his father, Reinhart-Diederick-Jacob, late earl, 31 Oct. 1823.

THE 1st earl of Athlone was GODART DE GINKELL, baron de Reede, lieut.gen. of the forces in Ireland under William III., who evinced signal courage and skill in the reduction of that kingdom to his majesty's obedience. He besieged and took Athlone, 30 June 1691, of which the celebrated col. Richard Grace was governor, and had successfully defended against the assault and blockade of the whole army of general Douglas the preceding year. On the 12th of July he also gained the decisive battle of Aghrím, over general St. Ruth. For these brilliant services he was most deservedly rewarded with the earldom of Athlone and barony of Aghrim. He likewise received the thanks of the British house of commons; and, in 1603, had the grant of the forfeited estates of William Dongan, earl of Limerick, amounting to 26,480 acres, confirmed in 1695; and, 1692, was created earl of Athlone, and baron of Aghrim. The grant of the lands being reversed by parliament, 15 Dec. 1695, and ap propriated to the payment of the public debts, the family retired to Holland'; and no earl of Athlone sat in the house of peers of Ireland until 10 March 1795. The 1st earl m. Ursula Philpota de Raasfeldt, and by her had issue, GODART, 2d earl, and Frederick-Christian Heer-Harvelt, one of the nobles of Guelderland, who m. Henrietta, countess de Nassau. The earl d. 1720, and was succeeded by his son, Go

JOHN BLIGH, EARL of DARNLEY, Viscount DARNLEY, of Athboy, co. Meath, Baron Clifton, of Rathmore, in the same co., in the peerage of Ireland, and lord Clifton, of Leighton Bromswold, in that of Great Britain; Hereditary High Steward of Gravesend and Milton; born 16 April 1827; succeeded his father, Edward, the late earl, 12 Feb.

THE family of Bligh was originally seated in the counties of Devon and Cornwall; JOHN Bligh (son of William Bligh, of Plymouth) went to Ireland, and was of Rathmore, co. Meath. He d. 1075, leaving a son and heir, THOMAS, who was one of the privy council for Ireland to queen Anne; m. Elizabeth, youngest da, of col. James Napier, of Loughcrew, co. Meath, and d. 1710, leaving a numerous issue, of whom the eldest son,

JOHN, m., 24 Aug. 1713, Theodosia, only surviving child and heiress of Edward Hyde, earl of Clarendon, and in her own right baroness Clifton. He was created, 14 Sept. 1721, baron Clifton, of Athboy, in Ireland: 7 March 1722, viscount Durnley; and, 29 June 1725, earl of Darnicy. By the above lady (who d. 30 July 1722) he had issue,

He d. 1618, leaving an only da., Catherine, m., 1st, Esme Stuart, lord Aubigny, 2d son of Esme, duke of Lennox; and, 2dly, James, earl of Abercorn. This lady's 1st husband was created baron Leighton, and earl of March, and on the death of his elder brother, 1623, became duke of Lennox. They had issue, 1. Stewart, lord Aubigny, who was slain at Kineton, 1642, leaving issue one son, Charles, who, on the death of his cousin, Esme, in 1660, became duke of Richmond, &c., but d. s.p. 1672, and one da., Catherine, who, on her brother's death, claimed, and was allowed (as sole h. of the body of her grandmother, Catherine) the barony of Clifton. She m. Henry O'Brien, lord Ibrackin, eldest son of Henry, earl of Thomond, and had issue one son, Donatus, who d. in his mother's lifetime, and one da., Catherine, who inherited the barony of Clifton, as heiress of her mother, and, marrying the earl of Clarendon, had issue, Theodosia, baroness Clifton above mentioned, her only surviv ing child and heiress.

HENRY-FREDERICK-JOHN-JAMES PERCEVAL, EARL of EGMONT, Viscount Perceval, of Kanturk, Baron Perceval, of Burton, co. Cork, in the Peerage of Ireland, and a Baronet of Ireland, Lord Lovel and Holland, of Enmore, co. Somerset, in the Peerage of Great Britain; succeeded his father, John, late earl, 31 Dec. 1835; married, Dec. 1828, Louise-Marie, da. of the count D'Orselet, and has issue, A SON, viscount Perceval, b. 1 April 1829.

SIR JOHN PERCEVAL, 1st earl of Egmont, b. 22 July 1683, was created baron Perceval, of Burton, 21 April 1715; viscount Perceval, of Kanturk, 1722; and 1733, advanced to the dignity of earl of Egmont. 20 June 1710, his lordship m. Catharine, eldest da. of sir Philip Parker à Morley, bart., and sister to sir Philip Parker à Morley Long, bart., who d. 20 Jan. 1740, and was the last heir male of the lords Morley. This barony of Morley came to the family by the marriage of sir William Parker, knt., (standard-bearer to king Richard III.,) with Alice Lovell, baroness of Morley, da. of William Lovell, lord Morley, 2d son of William, lord Lovell, of Tichmarch, baron of Lovell and Holland, &c., the representation of all which centered in the family of Parker by this alliance, but they could not be claimed, by reason of the attainder of Francis, viscount Lovell, on account of his adherence to king Richard III., (that attainder never having been reversed). His lordship had issue by his wife, (who d. 22 Aug. 1749,)
