JAMES SAUMAREZ, BARON DE SAUMAREZ, in the Isle of Guernsey, and a Baronet, in holy orders, rector of Huggate, co. York, born 9 Oct. 1789, succeeded his father, James, late lord, 9 Oct. 1836; married, Sept. 1814, Mary, 2d da. of vice-admiral William Lechmere.

His lordship is descended from a very ancient and respectable family in the island of Jersey. The original family name is DeSausmares, which continues to be used by the eldest branch of the family.
