GEORGE HARRIS, the 1st lord Harris, G.C.B., was b. 18 March 1746, commanded in chief the British army at the capture of Seringapatam and conquest of the Mysore, 1799, and was created baron Harris, 11 Aug. 1815; m., 9 Dec. 1779, Anne-Carteret, youngest da. and co-heiress of Charles Dixon, of Bath, esq., by whom (who d. 30 July 1833) he had issue,

Arms-Vert, on a chevron embattled erminois, between three hedgehogs or, as many bombs fired proper; and for augmentation, on a chief a representation of part of the wall and ditch and one of the sally-ports of Seringapatam, the drawbridge let down, and the Union flag of Great Britain hoisted above the standard of Tippoo

Sultaun.

Crest-On a mural crown or, the royal tiger of Tippoo Sultaun passant, guardant, vert, striped, crowned with an Eastern crown, and charged on the forehead with the Persian character implying, "Hydery," or the dominions of Hyder Ali, gold; vulned in the breast by an arrow also gold.

Supporters-Dexter, a grenadier in the uniform of the 73d foot, supporting with his exterior hand a flag-staff proper, thereon hoisted the Union flag flying towards the dexter over the standard of Tippoo Sultaun; and holding in the same hand the tricoloured flag wound round the lower part of the staff, and the white stripe inscribed with the word "Republique," all proper. Sinister, a sepoy of the Madras army in uniform, supporting in his exterior hand a flag-staff, thereon hoisted the flag of the East India Company over the standard of Tippoo Sultaun; and holding the tricoloured flag wound round the lower end of the staff, and the white stripe inscribed with the word, "Française."

His lordship is the second son of Hugh, duke of Northumberland, K.G., and sole brother of Hugh Percy, present duke of Northumberland.

CHARLES ABBOT, BARON COLCHESTER, of Colchester, co. Essex; born 12 March 1798; a Captain in the Royal Navy; succeeded his father, Charles, the 1st lord, 8 May 1829; married, 3 Feb. 1836, Elizabeth-Susan, sister of Edward, lord Ellenborough, and has issue,- -1. A DA., stillborn, 14 Nov. 1837.

His lordship's grandfather, the rev. JOHN ABBOT, D.D., rector of the parish of All Saints, Colchester, and some time fellow of Baliol College, Oxford, was b. at Shaftesbury, and baptized there 4 Sept. 1717. He d. 29 April 1760, having had issue, by Sarah, his wife, da. of Jonathan Farr, son of the rev. Thomas Farr, M.A., vicar of Long Whittenham, co. Berks, (which Sarah m., 2dly, Jeremiah Bentham, esq., and d. 27 Sept. 1809, aged 76, and was buried in Westminster Abbey,) two sons, viz.

1. JOHN FARR, of the Inner Temple, London, b. 1756, d. without issue, 22 Sept. 1794, m. Mary Pearce, grandda. and surviving descendant of William Pearce, esq., brother of Zachary, lord bishop of Rochester, dean of Westminster, which lady d. 11 Dec. 1793.

2. CHARLES, 1st lord Colchester, b. at Abingdon, co. Berks, 14 Oct. 1757, appointed, 1801, chief secretary to the lord lieut. of Ireland, and keeper of the privy seal in that country; elected, 1802, speaker of the house of commons, which high office he continued to fill till 1817, at the close of which session he retired from its arduous duties, and was created, 3 June 1817, baron Colchester; m., 29 Dec. 1796, Elizabeth, eldest da. of sir Philip Gibbes, of Spring Head, in the island of Barbadoes, bart., and had issue,

Supporters-Dexter, a lion gules, gorged with a plain collar azure, thereon three mullets argent. Sinister, a wild man proper, wreathed round the temples and loins, his feet bound with fetters, and holding the chains affixed thereto in his left hand.
