CONSUMPTION AND ALL LUNG DISEASES. By G. T. CONGREVE, Coombe Lodge, Peckham. The Nature, Progress, and True Treatment of this Scourge of England. The following Cases are selected from the FIFTEENTH SERIES. PHTHISIS-Case of Mr. Geo. BOURNE. This patient, formerly a grocer, residing now at Hanwell, came to Coombe-lodge in July of last year. On examination, Incipient phthisis, the upper lobe of right lung affected." His father had died of the disease. The health of this patient had broken down six months before coming to me. He had taken a small quantity of my medicine in March, and derived some benefit; was now exhorted to persevere, also to use a liniment freely where pains were felt (over the apex of the right lung). In June last I received a letter from him, from which the following is an extract: "It is some months since I took the last of your excellent balsam, and I think it my duty to tell you how thankful I am to my Maker and yourself for the healing of my disease. Your medicine arrested the dreadful work in my right lung. A doctor down here has thoroughly examined my lungs, and pronounced me perfectly sound. May you receive an exceeding great reward from Him who has said, 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of these, ye have done it unto Me.' Make what use you like of this letter."-G. BOURNE, Hastings-villa, St. Mark's road, HANWELL, CONSUMPTION-CASE of a YOUNG GIRL at ALFRETON. In August, last year, MR. SAM. DUNKLEY, of NEWTON GREEN, near ALFRETON, Derby, wrote to me relative to his daughter. Her illness had commenced about the Christmas before, with low restless nights followed by slow fever. A very troublesome hacking cough had followed, which continued sometimes night and day; expectoration difficult, sometimes mixed with blood. There was constantly oppressed breathing, pain with coughing, perspiration towards morning. The strength had gradually declined and she was wasting away. In this serious condition my treatment was commenced. In one month the father reported, "Congh better, appetite improved, looking better." In another month, "Breathing much better, resting well at night, gathering strength, no pain." Before Christmas last she was getting all right, but having caught a slight cold in the damp weather resumed her former treatment. It was found advisable to continue on until the Spring. In June the father says, "Our daughter has seemed to have nothing amiss with her since taking her last medicine." CASE of a YOUNG MAN at WALLINGTON. (The name and address of this patient are withheld by request, and can only be given privately.) In February last Mrs. R. consulted me relative to her son, a banker's clerk, then seriously ill with threatened consumption. Symptoms, a dry, hacking cough, following on hooping cough; expectoration mixed with blood, and other appearances indicative of commencing phthisis. In five weeks decided improvement was reported in another month the "Cough was nearly gone, and blood almost ceased." Writing me on the 11th of July. Mrs. R. says: I feel it is my duty to let you know that your medicines have quited cured my son; for which I am truly thankful. CONSULTATIONS AT COOMBE LODGE on TUESDAY, THURSDAY, and SATURDAY MORNINGS ONLY. EVERY PATIENT SHOULD READ THE BOOK BEFOREHAND. Mr. Congreve is publishing one recent case every week in the "Christian Worl and about twenty-five other Weekly Papers. |
