THE following prayers were written by the Author for the use of his own family, under circumstances that left him no choice as to the mode of conducting its devotions. They are now presented to the public in the hope that they may be useful to a numerous class of persons; who, though impressed with the obligation of family religion, are indisposed, from various causes, to employ language of their own in their social approaches to the divine throne. Being written with an immediate view to use, these prayers, it is hoped, will be found to partake little of the formal character of compositions.
