I HAVE had occasion to observe, that no por

tion of these Volumes has been received with more general satisfaction, than that in which specimens are exhibited, and short biographical notices given, of some of our earlier writers of poetry. I have indeed received various solici tations to resume the subject, for although it has been much beaten, enough is still left both to exercise and justify curiosity.

In my second Volume, a fuller account of this extraordinary personage, ROBERT GREENE, and his productions, was given, than had before appeared; but upon a further examination of such of his compositions as have since been placed
