He that descended is the same also that ascended.-Eph. iv. 10.

NOW for a tune of lofty praise

To great Jehovah's equal Son! Awake, my voice, in heavenly lays Tell loud the wonders He hath done. 2 Sing how He left the worlds of light, And the bright robes He wore above; How swift and joyful was His flight, 1 On wings of everlasting love.

3 Deep in the shades of gloomy death
The almighty Captive prisoner lay;
The almighty Captive left the earth,
And rose to everlasting day.

4 Lift up your eyes, ye sons of light,
Up to His throne of shining grace;
See what immortal glories sit
Round the sweet beauties of His face.

5 Amongst a thousand harps and songs,
Jesus, our God, exalted reigns;

His sacred name fills all their tongues,
And echoes through the heavenly plains.

WATTS.

God hath highly exalted Him.
Phil. ii. 9.

COME, all harmonious tongues,

Your noblest music bring; "Tis Christ, the everlasting God," And Christ the Man, we sing.

Down to the shades of death He bowed His awful head; Yet He arose to live and reign When death itself is dead.

No more the bloody spear,

The cross and nails no more;

For hell itself shakes at His name, And all the heavens adore.

There the Redeemer sits

High on the Father's throne; The Father lays His vengeance by, And smiles upon His Son.

5 There His full glories shine With uncreated rays

And bless His saints and angels' eyes To everlasting days.

Through Him we have access.
Eph. ii. 18.

1 YOME, let us lift our joyful eyes
Up to the courts above,

And smile to see our Father there,
Upon a throne of love.

2 Now we may bow before His feet,
And venture near the Lord;
No fiery cherub guards His seat,
Nor double-flaming sword.

3 The peaceful gates of heavenly bliss
Are opened by the Son;

High let us raise our notes of praise,
And reach the almighty throne.

4 To Thee ten thousand thanks we bring, Great Advocate on high;

And glory to the eternal King
That lays His vengeance by.

[hands,

4 Their priesthood ran through several
For mortal was their race;
Thy never-changing office stands
Eternal as Thy days.

5 Once in the circuit of a year,
With blood, but not their own,
Did they within the veil appear,
Before the golden throne.

6 But Christ, by His own powerful blood, Ascends above the skies,

And in the presence of our God
Shows His own sacrifice.

7 He ever lives to intercede

Before His Father's face;

Give Him, my soul, thy cause te plead, Nor doubt the Father's grace.

Heb. iii. 1.

NOW let our cheerful eyes survey

Our great High Priest above; And celebrate His constant care, And sympathizing love.

2 Though raised to a superior throne,
Where angels bow around,

And high o'er all the shining train
With matchless honours crowned;

3 The names of all His saints He bears
Deep graven on His heart;

Nor shall the meanest Christian say
That he hath lost his part.

4 Those characters shall fair abide
Our everlasting trust,

When gems and monuments and crowns
Are mouldered down to dust.

5 So, gracious Saviour, on my breast
May Thy dear name be worn,
A sacred ornament and guard,
To endless ages borne.

He ever liveth to make intercession.
Heb. vii. 25.

JESUS, in Thee our eyes behold

A thousand glories more

Than the rich gems and polished gold
The sons of Aaron wore.

1 John ii. 1.

THOU, the contrite sinner's Friend,
Who, loving, lovest to the end,
On this alone my hopes depend
That Thou wilt plead for me.

2 When weary in the Christian race,
Far off appears my resting-place,
And, fainting, I mistrust Thy grace,
Then, Saviour, plead for me.

3 When I have erred and gone astray,
Afar from Thine and wisdom's way,
And see no glimmering, guiding ray,
Still, Saviour, plead for me.

4 When Satan, by my sins made bold,
Strives from Thy cross to loose my hold,
Then with Thy pitying arms infold,
And plead, Ŏ plead for me.

5 And when my dying hour draws near,
Darkened with anguish, guilt, and fear,
Then to my fainting sight appear,
Pleading in heaven for me.

6 When the full light of heavenly day
Reveals my sins in dread array,
Say Thou hast washed them all away;
Ŏ say,-Thou plead'st for me.

400 A great High Priest, passed into the

heavens.-Heb. iv. 14.

WHERE high the heavenly temple stands,

The house of God, not made with hands,
A great High Priest our nature wears;
The Guardian of mankind appears.
2 He who, for men, their Surety stood,
And poured on earth His precious blood,
Pursues in heaven His mighty plan ;-
The Saviour and the Friend of man.
3 Though now ascended up on high,
He bends on earth a Brother's eye;
Partaker of the human name,
He knows the frailty of our frame.
4 Our Fellow-sufferer yet retains
A fellow-feeling of our pains;
And still remembers, in the skies,
His tears, His agonies, and cries.

5 In every pang that rends the heart,
The Man of Sorrows had a part:
He sympathizes with our grief,
And to the sufferer sends relief.

6 With boldness, therefore, at the throne,
Let us make all our sorrows known,
And ask the aid of heavenly power
To help us in the evil hour.

To Him be glory and dominion for
ever.-Rev. i. 6.

THAT equal honour shall we bring
To Thee, O Lord our God, the Lamb,
When all the notes that angels sing
Are far inferior to Thy name?

2 Worthy is He that once was slain, [died;
The Prince of Peace that groaned and
Worthy to rise and live and reign
At His Almighty Father's side.

3 Power and dominion are His due
Who stood condemned at Pilate's bar;
Wisdom belongs to Jesus, too, [here.
Though He was charged with madness
4 All riches are His native right,
Yet He sustained amazing loss;
To Him ascribe eternal might,
Who left His weakness on the cross.
5 Honour immortal must be paid,
Instead of scandal and of scorn;
While glory shines around His head,
And a bright crown without a thorn.
6 Blessings for ever on the Lamb,
Who bore the curse for wretched men;
Let angels sound His sacred name,
And every creature say, Amen.

Luke xix. 38.

JESUS, Thou everlasting King,
Accept the tribute which we bring;
Accept the well-deserved renown,
And wear our praises as Thy crown.

2 Let every act of worship be
Like our espousals, Lord, to Thee;
Like the blest hour when from above
We first received Thy pledge of love.
3 The gladness of that happy day,
Our hearts would wish it long to stay:
Nor let our faith forsake its hold,
Nor comfort sink, nor love grow cold.
4 Let every moment as it flies,

Increase Thy praise, improve our joys,
Till we are raised to sing Thy name
At the great supper of the Lamb.

5 O that the months would roll away,
And bring that coronation day!
The King of Grace shall fill the throne,
With all His Father's glories on.

Rom. ix. 5.

CHRIST, our hope, our heart's desire,
Redemption's only spring;

Creator of the world art Thou,

Its Saviour and its King.

2 How vast the mercy and the love
Which laid our sins on Thee,
And led Thee to a cruel death,
To set Thy people free!

3 But now the bonds of death are burst, The ransom has been paid;

And Thou art on Thy Father's throne, In glorious robes arrayed.

4 O may Thy mighty love prevail,
Our sinful souls to spare;

O may we come before Thy throne,
And find acceptance there.

5 0 Christ, be Thou our present joy,
Our future great reward;
Our only glory may it be
To glory in the Lord.

His name shall be called Wonderful.
Is. ix. 6.

10 JESUS, King most wonderful,

Thou Conqueror renowned;

Thou sweetness most ineffable,
In whom all joys are found,-

2 When once Thou visitest the heart,
Then truth begins to shine,
Then earthly vanities depart,
Then kindles love divine.

3 O Jesus, light of all below,

Thou fount of life and fire, Surpassing all the joys we know, All that we can desire ;

4 May every heart confess Thy name,
And ever Thee adore;

And, seeking Thee, itself inflame
To seek Thee more and more.

Zech. ix. 9.

REJOICE, the Lord is King:

Your Lord and King adore:
Mortals, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice:
Rejoice; He bids His saints rejoice.

Jesus, the Saviour, reigns,

The God of truth and love;

When He had purged our stains,
He took His seat above.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice:
Rejoice; He bids His saints rejoice.

8 His kingdom cannot fail:

He rules o'er earth and heaven:
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Saviour given.

Lift up your hearts, lift up your voice:
Rejoice; He bids His saints rejoice.

CONDER. The Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Rev. xix. 6.

THE Lord is King; lift up thy voice,
O earth, and all ye heavens rejoice.
From world to world the joy shall ring:
The Lord Omnipotent is King.

2 The Lord is King; who then shall dare
Resist His will, distrust His care,
Or murmur at His wise decrees,
Or doubt His royal promises?

3 The Lord is King; child of the dust,
The Judge of all the earth is just:
Holy and true are all His ways;
Let every creature speak His praise.
4 He reigns! Ye saints, exalt your strains:
Your God is King, your Father reigns;
And He is at the Father's side,

The Man of love, the Crucified.

5 Come, make your wants, your burdens known:

He will present them at the throne;
And angel-bands are waiting there,
His messages of love to bear.

6 O! when His wisdom can mistake,
His might decay, His love forsake,
Then may His children cease to sing,
The Lord Omnipotent is King.
7 Alike pervaded by His eye,
All parts of His dominion lie;
This world of ours and worlds unseen,
And the thin boundary between.
8 One Lord, one empire, all secures;
He reigns,-and life and death are yours.
Through earth and heaven one song shall
The Lord Omnipotent is King.

heaven.-Luke x. 18.

1 HOSANNA to our conquering King!

The of darkness flies; His troops rush headlong down to hell, Like lightning from the skies.

2 Hosanna to our conquering King! All hail incarnate Love:

Ten thousand songs and glories wait To crown Thy head above.

3 Thy victories and Thy deathless fame Through the wide world shall run; And everlasting ages sing

The triumphs Thou hast won.

KELLY. If we suffer, we shall reign with Him. 2 Tím. ii. 12.

1 THE head that once was crowned with crowned with glory now: [thorns,

A royal diadem adorns

The mighty Victor's brow.

2 The highest place that heaven affords

Is His by sovereign right:

The King of kings, and Lord of lords,
He reigns in glory bright.

3 The joy of all who dwell above,
The joy of all below

To whom He manifests His love,
And grants His name to know:

4 To them the cross, with all its shame,
With all its grace, is given;
Their name an everlasting name,
Their joy the joy of heaven.

5 They suffer with their Lord below
They reign with Him above;
Their profit and their joy, to know
The mystery of His love.

Rev. xi. 15.

ALL hail, Incarnate God!

The wondrous things foretold Of Thee, in sacred writ,

With joy our eyes behold:

Still does Thine arm new trophies wear,

And monuments of glory rear.

To Thee the hoary head

Its silver honours pays;
To Thee the blooming youth
Devotes His brightest days:

And every age their tribute bring,

And bow to Thee, all-conquering King.

O haste, victorious Prince,

That glorious, happy day,

When souls, like drops of dew,

Shall own Thy gentle sway:

O may it bless our longing eyes,

And bear our shouts beyond the skies.

CROW

YROWN Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon His throne;

Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own.

Awake, my soul, and sing

Of Him who died for thee;

And hail Him as thy matchless King,
Through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of love :

Behold His hands and side,

Rich wounds, yet visible above,
In beauty glorified.

Crown Him the Lord of heaven,

One with the Father known;

And the blest Spirit through Him given, Exalt Him to His throne.

All hail! Redeemer, hail!

For Thou hast died for me;

Thy praise shall never, never fail
Throughout eternity.
