C. WESLEY.

Christ is all, and in all.-Col. iii. 11.
HOU hidden Source of calm repose;
Thou all sufficient love divine;

My help and refuge from my foes,
Secure I am, if Thou art mine,

From sin and grief, from guilt and shame:
I hide me, Jesus, in Thy name.

2 Thy mighty name, salvation is,
And keeps my happy soul above;
Comfort it brings and power and peace,
And joy and everlasting love:

To me, with Thy dear name, are given
Pardon and holiness and heaven.

3 Jesus, my all in all Thou art,

My rest in toil, mine ease in pain;
The medicine of my broken heart;
In war, my peace; in loss, my gain
My smile beneath the tyrant's frown;
In shame, my glory and my crown:
4 In want, my plentiful supply;
In weakness, mine almighty power;

72

In bonds, my perfect liberty;
My light in Satan's darkest hour;
In grief, my joy unspeakable;
My life in death; my heaven; my all.

322 I will manifest myself to him.

John xiv. 21.

1 CON of God, to Thee I cry :
S
By the holy mystery

Of Thy dwelling here on earth,
By Thy pure and holy birth,
Lord, Thy presence let me see,
Manifest Thyself to me.

2 Lamb of God, to Thee I cry:
By Thy bitter agony,

By Thy pangs, to us unknown,
By Thy spirit's parting groan,
Lord, Thy presence let me see,
Manifest Thyself to me.

3 Prince of Life, to Thee I cry :
By Thy glorious majesty,
By Thy triumph o'er the grave,
Meek to suffer, strong to save,
Lord, Thy presence let me see,
Manifest Thyself to me.

4 Lord of glory, God Most High,
Man exalted to the sky,

With Thy love my bosom fill;
Prompt me to perform Thy will;
Then Thy glory I shall see,

Thou wilt bring me home to Thee.

The true light.-John i. 9.
1 LIGHT of those, whose dreary dwelling
Borders on the shades of death,
Come, and all Thy love revealing,
Dissipate the clouds beneath.
The new heaven and earth's Creator,
On our deepest darkness rise;
Scattering all the night of nature,
Pouring day upon our eyes.

2 Still we wait for Thine appearing:
Life and joy Thy beams impart,
Chasing all our doubts, and cheering
Every poor, benighted heart.
Come and manifest the favour
God hath to our ransomed race:
Come, Thou Advocate and Saviour,
Manifest Thy wondrous grace.

3 Save us in Thy great compassion,
O Thou Prince of peace and love;
Give the knowledge of salvation;
Raise our hearts to things above.
By Thine all-sufficient merit,
Every burdened soul release;
By the teaching of Thy Spirit
Guide us into perfect peace.

2 "Tis by the merits of Thy death
The Father smiles again;
Tis by Thine interceding breath
The Spirit dwells with men.
3 Till God in human flesh I see,
My thoughts no comfort find;
The holy, just, and sacred Three
Are terrors to my mind.

4 But when Immanuel's face appears, My hope, my joy begin:

His name forbids my slavish fears,
His grace removes my sin.

5 While Jews on their own law rely,
And Greeks of wisdom beast,
I love the incarnate mystery,
And there I fix my trust.

Jer. xxiii. 6.

JESUS, Thy robe of righteousness

My beauty is, my glorious dress; 'Midst flaming worlds, in this arrayed, With joy shall I lift up my head.

2 When from the dust of death I rise To claim my mansion in the skies, Even then, shall this be all my plea, Jesus hath lived and died for me. 3 Bold shall I stand in that great day, For who aught to my charge shall lay? Fully, by Thee, absolved I am,

From sin and fear, from guilt and shame.
4 This spotless robe the same appears,
When ruined nature sinks in years;
No age can change its lovely hue;
Its glory is for ever new.

5 Thou God of power, Thou God of love,
Let the whole world Thy mercy prove;
Now let Thy word o'er all prevail,
Now take the spoils of death and hell.
60 let the dead now hear Thy voice;
Now bid Thy banished ones rejoice;
Their beauty this, their glorious dress,
Jesus the Lord, our Righteousness.

DODDRIDGE.

Unto you that believe He is precious. 1 Pet. ii. 7.

ESUS, I love Thy charming name; "Tis music to mine ear; Fain would I sound it out so loud, That earth and heaven should hear. 2 Yes, Thou art precious to my soul, My transport and my trust; Jewels, to Thee, are gaudy toys, And gold is sordid dust.

3 All my capacious powers can wish,
In Thee doth richly meet;

Nor to mine eyes is light so dear,
Nor friendship half so sweet.

4 Thy grace still dwells upon my heart,
And sheds its fragrance there;-
The noblest balm of all its wounds,
The cordial of its care.

5 I'll speak the honours of Thy name
With my last labouring breath;
Then, speechless, clasp Thee in mine arms,
The antidote of death.

327 Behold the Lamb of God.—John i. 36.

1 JESUS, the name to sinners dear,
The name to sinners given;
It scatters all their guilty fear,
And turns their hell to heaven.
20 that the world might taste and see
The riches of His grace!

The arms of love that compass me
Would all mankind embrace.

3 His only righteousness I show,
His saving truth proclaim:
"Tis all my business here below
To cry-Behold the Lamb!

4 Happy, if with my latest breath
I may but speak His name;
Preach Him to all, and ery in death,-
Behold, behold the Lamb!

Matt. i. 21.

OW sweet the name of Jesus sounds

Hin a believer's ear!

It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

2 It makes the wounded spirit whole,
And calms the troubled breast:
"Tis manna to the hungry soul,

And to the weary, rest.

3 Dear name! the rock on which I build;
My shield and hiding place,
My never-failing treasury, filled
With boundless stores of grace.

4 Jesus, my Shepherd, Guardian, Friend;
My Prophet, Priest, and King;
My Lord, my Life, my Way, mine End,
Accept the praise I bring.

5 Weak is the effort of my heart,

And cold my warmest thought;
But when I see Thee as Thou art,
I'll praise Thee as I ought:

6 Till then, I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And may the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death.

ever.-Rev. i. 6.

10 FOR a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace.

2 My gracious Master, and my God,
Assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroad The honours of Thy name.

3 Jesus, the name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease, Tis music in the sinner's ears; "Tis life and health and peace.

4 He breaks the power of cancelled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;

His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood avails for me.

5 He speaks, and, listening to His voice, New life the dead receive;

The mournful, broken hearts rejoice,
The humble poor believe.

6 Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb, Your loosened tongues employ;

Ye blind, behold your Saviour come
And leap, ye lame, for joy.

7 Look unto Him, ye nations; own
Your God, ye fallen race;

Look, and be saved by faith alone,
Be justified by grace.

knowledge.-Eph. iii. 19.

our Redeemer's glorious name

Take the sacred song:

O may His love, immortal flame,

Tune every heart and tongue.

2 His love, what mortal thought can reach?
What mortal tongue display?
Imagination's utmost stretch
In wonder dies away.

3 He left His radiant throne on high,
Left the bright realms of bliss,
And came to earth, to bleed and die-
Was ever love like this?

4 Dear Lord, while we adoring pay
Our humble thanks to Thee;

May every heart with rapture say,-
The Saviour died for me.

5 O may the sweet, the blissful theme
Fill every heart and tongue;
Till strangers learn Thy glorious name,
And join the sacred song.

Jesus, have mercy on me. Mark x. 47.

ORD of mercy and of might,

HEBER.

'Lotmankind the life and light

Maker, Teacher, Infinite;

Jesus, hear and save!

2 Strong Creator, Saviour mild, Humbled to a mortal child, Captive, beaten, bound, reviled; Jesus, hear and save!

3 Throned above celestial things,
Borne aloft on angels' wings,
Lord of lords, and King of kings
Jesus, hear and save!

4 Soon to come to earth again,
Judge of angels and of men;
Hear us now, and hear us then,
Jesus, hear and save!

1 T Thyself reveal to me;

HOU art, O Christ, the Way:

2

4

And let me humbly, day by day,
Live, move, and walk in Thee.

Thou art the Truth divine;
Its fulness may I see;

Believe, and find the promise mine "The Truth shell make you free."

Thou art the Life of God;

By Thee the dying live:
In me diffuse Thyself abroad,
And life eternal give.

Thus, by Thyself, the Way,
I to the Father come;

Led by the Truth, I cannot stray;
The Life and I are one.

John xiv. 6.

JESUS, my all, to heaven is gone;
He whom I fix my hopes upon:
His track I see, and I'll pursue
The narrow way, till Him I view.

2 The way the holy prophets went,
The way that leads from banishment,
The King's highway of holiness
I'll go, for all His paths are peace.

3 This is the way I long had sought
And mourned because I found it not;
Till late I heard my Saviour say,-
Come hither, soul; I am the way.

HA

TAIL! Thou once despised Jesus,
Hail! Thou Galilean King;

Thou didst suffer to release us;
Thou didst free salvation bring.

Hail! Thou glorious God and Saviour,
Bearer of our sin and shame,
By Thy merits we find favour;
Life is given through Thy name.

2 Paschal Lamb, by God appointed,
All our sins on Thee were laid:
By Almighty love anointed,

Thou hast full atonement made.
All Thy people are forgiven,
Through the virtue of Thy blood;
Opened is the gate of heaven,
Peace is made for man with God.

3 Jesus, hail! enthroned in glory,
There for ever to abide;

All the heavenly hosts adore Thee,
Seated at Thy Father's side;
There for sinners Thou art pleading;
There Thou dost our place prepare
Ever for us interceding,

Till in glory we appear.

4 Worship, honour, power, and blessing,
Thou art worthy to receive:
Loudest praises, without ceasing,
Meet it is for us to give:
Help, ye bright angelic spirits,

Bring your sweetest, noblest lays;
Help to sing our Saviour's merits,
Help to chant Immanuel's praise.

Worthy is the Lamb.-Rev. v. 12. YLORY to God on high !

GLO

Let earth to heaven reply;
Praise ye His name :

His love and grace adore,
Who all our sorrows bore;
And praise Him evermore;
Worthy the Lamb!

2 Jesus, our Lord and God,
Bore sin's tremendous load

Praise ye His name:
Tell what His arm hath done,
What spoils from death He won
Sing His great name alone;

Worthy the Lamb!

3 While they around the throne
Join cheerfully in one,

Praising His name;
We who have felt His blood
Sealing our peace with God,
Sound His high praise abroad
Worthy the Lamb!

4 Join, all the ransomed race,
Our Lord and God to bless;
Praise ye His name:
In Him we will rejoice,
Making a joyful noise,
Shouting with heart and voice,
Worthy the Lamb!

5 Though we must change our place, Yet shall we never cease

Praising His name;

To Him our tribute bring,
Hail Him our gracious King,
And, without ceasing, sing,
Worthy the Lamb!

6 Now let the hosts above,
In realms of endless love,

Praise His great name :
To Him ascribed be,
Honour and Majesty,
Through all eternity;

Worthy the Lamb!

The song of Moses...and of the Lamb.
Rev. xv. 3.

AWAKE and sing the song

Of Moses and the Lamb; Wake every heart and every tongue, To praise the Saviour's name.

2 Sing of His dying love;

3

4

5

6

Sing of His rising power;
Sing how He intercedes above,
For those whose sins He bore.
Sing, till we feel our hearts
Ascending with our tongues;
Sing, till the love of sin departs,
And grace inspires our songs.
Ye pilgrims on the road
To Zion's city, sing;
Rejoice ye in the Lamb of God,
In Christ, the eternal King.

Soon shall we hear Him say,-
Ye blessed children, come;
Soon will He call us hence away,
And take His wanderers home.

There shall each raptured tongue His endless praise proclaim: And sing in sweeter notes the song Of Moses and the Lamb.

Worthy of more glory than Moses.
Heb. iii. 3.

H who would not fear Thy name?
OW strong Thine arm is, Mighty God!

Jesus, how sweet Thy graces are!
Who would not love the Lamb?

2 He has done more than Moses did;
Our Prophet and our King:

From bonds of hell He freed our souls,
And taught our lips to sing.

3 In the Red Sea, by Moses' hand,
The Egyptian host was drowned;
Bat His own blood hides all our sins,
And guilt no more is found.

4 When through the desert Israel went,
With manna they were fed;
Our Lord invites us to His flesh,
And calls it living bread.

5 Moses beheld the promised land,
Yet never reached the place;

But Christ shall bring His followers To see His Father's face.

6 Then shall our love and joy be full, And feel a warmer flame;

[home,

And sweeter voices tune the song Of Moses and the Lamb.

Luke ii. 11.

BEHOLD, the grace appears;

The promise is fulfilled:

Mary, the wondrous virgin, bears;
And Jesus is the child.

The everlasting God

Calls Him His only Son;

Puts in His hand the sovereign rod,

And gives Him David's throne.

A heavenly form descends,

The glorious news to bring;

And straight a flaming troop attends; The shepherds heard them sing:

Glory to God on high,

And heavenly peace on earth,

Good will to men, to angels joy,
At the Redeemer's birth.

In worship so divine

Let saints employ their tongues;

With the celestial hosts we join,
And loud repeat their songs:-

Worship Christ, the new-born King. 2 Shepherds in the field abiding, Watching o'er your flocks by night, God with man is now residing, Yonder shines the infant-light; Come and worship;

Worship Christ, the new-born King.

Brighter visions beam afar; Seek the great Desire of Nations; Ye have seen His natal-star Come and worship;
