Phaedrus Augusti liberius non satis constat, eius qui primus hoc nomen accepit an successoris Ti berii natus est, incertum quo anno, in monte Pierio apud Macedonas. Idem tenera adhuc aetate in occi dentem videtur esse delatus, ut qui ipse asserat, puerum se legisse in schola Enni quendam versum, sive Ro mae id fuit sive potins alibi. Romae enim baud ita multum post Vergilii et Horatu obitus sublatam omnino e lndis antiquorum memoriam docemur eis quae de Vale rio Probo, Phaedri aequali, tradit Suetonius [de ill. Gramm. Ceterum ubi in familiam Caesarum trans iit, et liberalium artium studio et dexteritale morum effecit ut libertate donaretur.
