taken away by the therein and hereinbefore recited Acts of Parliament and whereas Sir Giffin Wilson, knight, the Master to whom this matter was referred, by his report bearing date the 9th day of August last, certified that he had been attended by Mr. John James Johnson, the solicitor to the suitors, and by Thomas Drake, the younger, the junior or copying clerk to John Edmund Dowdeswell, esq.; Robert Logan, the junior or copying clerk to William Wingfield, esq.; John Allan Stokes, the junior or copying clerk to the said Sir Giffin Wilson, knight; Thomas Burmingham, the junior or copying clerk to William Brougham, esq.; James Brown, the junior or copying clerk to Nassau William Senior, esq.; Edward Wright, the junior copying clerk to Andrew Henry Lynch, esq.; Thomas Needle, as the junior or copying clerk to Samuel Duckworth, esq.; Richard Comfort Ward, the junior or copying clerk to Sir William Horne, knight; Lewis Morris Cuthbert, the junior or copying clerk to Sir George Rose, knight; and William Thompson, the junior or copying clerk to Richard Richards, esq., and in their presence had proceeded on the matters by the said order referred to him; and that certain memorials had been presented to his Lordship and the Lords Commissioners of her Majesty's Treasury by the before named junior or copying clerks, stating that they had and would sustain considerable loss under the therein and hereinbefore recited Act, and praying that such compensation might be awarded them for the loss they should sustain as to his Lordship and the Lords Commissioners of her Majesty's Treasury should seem meet; and that previous to his entering upon the consideration of the said claims, the accounts accompanying the same were examined and compared, but to avoid any excess of claim which might have involuntarily or by mistake occurred, he had, with the acquiescence of the said claimants, made a deduction of one-sixth part from each claim, and having regard to that deduction, and to the mode of computing and charging the folios directed by the General Order of this Court, bearing date the 28th day of November 1743, which had been followed and acted upon invariably ever since, and so continued, and having been sanctioned and approved by the Commissioners in the Report of 1816, and again recognised and confirmed by the 31st of the Orders of December 1833, and by which mode the present computation had

been made, and he presumed and submitted lawfully made, he had considered and approved the accounts respectively annexed to the said memorials, and allowed them, with the deduction aforesaid, as the net annual receipts in respect of copy money lawfully payable to them the said junior or copying clerks, and that he had, in a schedule annexed to his report, set forth the names of the said several junior or copying clerks, and had therein stated such net annual receipts of each clerk, computed as in his said report mentioned: and whereas the Master omitted to make the aforesaid deduction of one-sixth from the claims made by the said junior clerks, in respect of losses sustained by them by reason of the provisions of the said first-mentioned Act: and whereas by a warrant under the hands of his Lordship and three of the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, bearing date the 4th day of December instant, after reciting that the several persons therein and next hereinafter mentioned had presented claims to his Lordship and the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury for compensation for loss of copy money sustained by them in consequence of the provisions of the said Act of the 5th and 6th years of the reign of Her present Majesty, chapter 84, which had transferred the business in lunacy, to the Commissioners, and that due inquiry had been made into the said claims of the persons therein and hereinafter mentioned, and into the lawful fees and emoluments in respect of such compensation, should be allowed, it was ordered and determined that the following yearly sums (being respectively onesixth less than the amount of the respective claims) should be paid to the several persons next hereinafter mentioned; that is to say, Thomas Drake, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Dowdeswell, 337. 11s. 8d.; Robert Logan, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Wingfield, 301. 19s.; John Allen Stokes, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Wilson, 33. 18s. 2d. ; Thomas Burmingham, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Brougham, 271. 12s. 2d.; Edward Wright, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Lynch, 631. 1s. 1d.; James Brown, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Senior, 57l. 18s. 10d.; Thomas Needle, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Duckworth, 601. 178. 6d.; Richard Comfort Ward, the Junior Clerk in the office of Master Horne, 36l. 19s. 4d.; and Lewis Morris Cuthbert, as Junior Clerk in the office of Master Rose, 521. 12s 1d;

as a just and reasonable compensation for the loss which they have respectively sustained by the operation of the first hereinbefore recited Act, and that such compensation should commence from the 6th day of August 1842, when the said herein before recited Act passed, and should be paid quarterly so long as the said several persons should hold their present situations; and whereas there is now due and owing to the said several junior or copying clerks the following sums, that is to say, to Thomas Drake, 411. 14s. 2d.; to Robert Logan, 381. 8s. 9d; to John Allen Stokes, 421. 2s. 3d.; to Thomas Burmingham, 341. 58. 9d.; to Edward Wright, 781. 6s. 2d.; to James Brown, 717. 19s 2d. ; to Thomas Needle, 75l. 12s. 1d.; to Richard Comfort Ward, 451. 18s. 2d.; and to Lewis Morris Cuthbert, 651. 6s. 7d., being the proportionate parts of their respective compensations as aforesaid, from the said 6th day of August 1842 to the 3rd day of November last, and that they will also be entitled to receive and be paid the future quarterly payments of their said respective compensations by quarterly payments, on the 3rd day of February, the 3d day of May, the 3d day of August, and the 3d day of November in every year, the first of such quarterly payments to be made on the 3d day of February next, and continue to be made so long as the said several persons shall continue to hold their present situations: and whereas by an order made in this matter, bearing date the 14th day of August 1843, and reciting that the said junior or copying clerks had respectively presented claims to his Lordship for compensation for the loss they had respectively sustained under the said secondly recited Act of the 5 & 6 Vict., c. 103, whereby it appeared that the sums received by the said respective junior or copying clerks for copy money, for copies of bills of costs, and certificates, were as follows: namely, Thomas Drake, jun., on an average of three years, to 1801. Os. 7d.; by Richard Logan, from November 1841 to November 1842, to 1877. 13s. 11d.; by John Allen Stokes, on an average of two years, to 2247. 13s. 2d.; by Thomas Burmingham, on an average of three years, to 1337. 10s. 3d.; by Edward Wright, on an average of three years, to 1787. 16s. 9d.; by James Brown, on an average of three years, to 1427. 10s. 7d.; by Thomas Needle, on an average of three years, to 128s. 13. 10d.; by Richard Comfort Ward, on an average of three years to '1771. 3s. 8d.; by Lewis Morris Cuthbert, from August 1841 to

August 1842, to 1807. 11s., and by William Thompson, on an average of 12 months, to 497. 8s. 8d.; it was ordered, that out of any cash which might at any time be remaining in the Bank to the credit of the said account, entitled, The Suitors' Fee Fund Account," but subject as therein and hereinafter-mentioned, there should be paid by the Governor and Company of the Bank of England to the said Thomas Drake, jun., Robert Logan, John Allen Stokes, Edward Wright, Richard Comfort Ward, and Lewis Morris Cuthbert, the sum of 801. each; to James Brown the sum of 704., to Thomas Burmingham and Thomas Needle the sum of 607. each, and to William Thompson the sum of 201., being an allowance on account of their respective claims for compensation as such junior or copying clerks as aforesaid; and whereas there is now due and owing to the said several junior or copying clerks the following sums, that is to say, to Thomas Drake, jun. 721. 1s. 4d., to Robert Logan 787. 10s. 10d., to John. Allen Stokes 1091. 15s. 3d., to Thomas Burmingham 52l. 15s. 6d., to Edward Wright 717. 1s. 2d., to James Brown 50l. 7s. 10d., to Thomas Needle 481. 14s. 1d., to Richard Comfort Ward 691. 13s. 3d., to Lewis Morris Cuthbert 721. 10s. 1d., and to William Thompson 217. 15s. 2d., being the balance of the proportionate parts of their respective last-mentioned compensations which accrued from the said 29th day of October to the 3rd day of November last, (both days inclusive), and they will also be entitled to receive and be paid the future quarterly payments of their said respective compensations, by quarterly payments on the 3rd day of February, the 3rd day of May, the 3rd day of August and the 3rd day of November, in every year, the first of such quarterly payments to be made on the 3rd day of February next, and to continue to be made so long as the said several persons shall continue to hold their present situations. His Lordship doth order that the said Master's report, so far as relates to the claims for the loss of copy money, by reason of the provisions of the said second mentioned Act, be confirmed, and that out of any cash which may at any time be remaining in the said Bank to the credit of the account, intituled "The Suitors' Fee Fund Account," (but subject, and without prejudice to the payment of all salaries and sums of money which by any Act or Acts in force at the passing of the said recited Acts were authorised to be paid thereout), there to be paid by the Governor and Company of the Bank of England to the several persons

hereinafter mentioned as such junior or copying clerks as aforesaid, the following sums; that is to say, to Thomas Drake, jun. 1137. 15s. 6d., to Robert Logan 1167. 19s. 7d., to John Allen Stokes 1517. 171. 6d., to Thomas Burmingham 871. 1s. 3d., to Edward Wright 1491. 7s. 4d., to James Brown 1221. 7s., to Thomas Needle 1241. 6s. 2d., to Richard Comfort Ward 1157. 11s. 5d., to Lewis Morris Cuthbert 1371. 16s. 8d., and to William Thompson 217. 15s. 2d., being the balance of their proportionate part of their respective compensations for losses they have respectively sustained by the provisions of the said two recited Acts of Parliament from the said 6th day of August, 1842 to the 3d day of November, 1843, except as to the said loss sustained under the 5 & 6 Vict. c. 100, for copies of bills and certificates and as to the loss sustained under that Act, from the 29th day of October, 1842, to the 3d day of November, 1843; and his Lordship doth order that out of any cash which may at any time be remaining in the Bank to the credit of the said account, intituled "The Suitors' Fee Fund Account," (but subject as aforesaid), there be paid by the Governor and Company of the Bank of England to the several persons next hereinafter mentioned the following yearly sums; that is to say, Thomas Drake, jun. 1831. 1 s. 2d., Robert Logan, 1871. 7s. 4d., John Allen Stokes, 2211. 2s. 6d., Thomas Burmingham, 1381. 17s. 5d., Edward Wright, 2121. 18. 9d., James Brown, 1761. 14s. 4d., Thomas Needle, 1681. 2s 6d., to Richard Comfort Ward, 1847. 12s. 5d., to Lewis Morris Cuthbert, 2031. 1s. 3d., and to William Thompson, 41l. 3s. 11d. for compensation as aforesaid, so long as they shall respectively continue to hold their present situations, by quarterly payments, on the 3d day of February, the 3d day of May, the 3d day of August, and the 3d day of November in every year, the first of such quarterly payments to be made on the 3d day of February next; and for the purposes aforesaid, the said Accountant-general is to draw on the Bank according to the form prescribed in the Act of Parliament, and the general rules and orders of this court in that case made and provided.-Lib.
