though the remnants of the Whig ministry work their little worst. The mighty labours of his life have built a reputation far beyond the reach of the efforts of disappointed partisans, or their obedient press. He may commit his character, with confidence, to the historian. When the

paltry interests of dismissed placemen shall have been forgotten; when the petticoat intrigues of the court of Queen Victoria shall have sunk beneath those of the court of Queen Anne, and the names of his Lordship's present assailants shall have returned to their primitive and congenial oblivion,-the name of Lord Brougham, the statesman, the orator, the scholar, the philosopher, the champion of human liberty, and the benefactor of his species, will take its place amongst the highest of which our annals boast.
