water shall certify to be necessary for its expenses, not exceeding sixty-two thousand dollars.

§ 2. Any provision of chapter three hundred and ninety-four of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-five, as amended, in conflict with the foregoing is hereby repealed and superseded.

LOCAL LAW No. 3

A local law of the city of Oswego to fix the salary of the city attorney at three thousand five hundred dollars per year.

Became a law December 7, 1927, with the approval of the Mayor, no petition protesting. Passed by the local legislative body of the city of Oswego.

Be it enacted by the common council of the city of Oswego, New York, as follows:

Section 1. Section one hundred and two of title four of chapter three hundred and ninety-four of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-five, entitled "An act to revise the charter of the city of Oswego," as the same has been amended and superseded, be and the same hereby is superseded by the following new section one hundred and two which shall read as follows:

§ 102. The city attorney. The city attorney shall be appointed by the mayor and shall hold his office until the end of the term of the mayor by whom he was appointed, and until his successor is appointed and qualified. He shall receive a salary of thirty-five hundred dollars annually, payable monthly, which sum so fixed by the common council shall be in full of all services rendered by him to the city of Oswego, or to any department thereof. No person shall be eligible to the office of city attorney unless he shall be of the degree of counselor of the supreme court of the state of New York, and a member of the bar of Oswego county of at least five years active practice. It shall be his duty to prosecute and defend all civil actions and proceedings, by and against the said city, and every department thereof, and to perform such other professional services relating to said city as the mayor or common council shall direct. No action shall be commenced by the city attorney unless directed by the mayor or common council.

§ 2. Any provision of the charter of the city of Oswego, being chapter three hundred and ninety-four of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-five, as amended or superseded, in conflict with the foregoing is hereby repealed and superseded.

§ 3. This local law shall take effect immediately but the salary hereby provided for shall be effective only from and after January first, nineteen hundred and twenty-eight.

LOCAL LAW No. 4

A local law of the city of Oswego to fix the salary of the superintendent of water at not more than three thousand six hundred dollars per year.

Became a law December 7, 1927, with the approval of the Mayor, no petition protesting. Passed by the local legislative body of the city of Oswego.

Be it enacted by the common council of the city of Oswego, New York, as follows:

Section 1. Section three hundred and eighty-eight of title sixteen of chapter three hundred and ninety-four of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-five, entitled "An act to revise the charter of the city of Oswego" as the same has been amended and superseded, be and the same hereby is superseded by the following new section three hundred and eighty-eight which shall read as follows:

§ 388. Said department shall employ a superintendent at a salary to be fixed by the department, not exceeding three thousand six hundred dollars per year, who shall act as the secretary of the department without extra compensation, and one clerk at a salary to be fixed by the department, not exceeding one thousand dollars per year, each of whom shall hold office during the pleasure of the department. The clerk shall perform such duties as may be required of him by the department. Said superintendent and clerk shall be residents of the city of Oswego.

§ 2. Any provision of the charter of the city of Oswego being chapter three hundred and ninety-four of the laws of eighteen hundred and ninety-five as amended or superseded, in conflict with the foregoing is hereby repealed and superseded.

§ 3. This local law shall take effect immediately but no change in salary provided hereby shall be effective except from and after January first nineteen hundred and twenty-eight.

CITY OF PLATTSBURGH

LOCAL LAW No. 1

A local law amending local law number two of nineteen hundred and twentyfive, entitled "An act to supersede section seventy-two of the charter of the city of Plattsburgh, in relation to appointment and salary of the officers and members of the fire department."

Became a law May 20, 1927, with the approval of the Mayor. Passed by the local legislative body of the city of Plattsburgh.

Be it enacted by the common council of the city of Plattsburgh as follows: Section 1. Section seventy-two of local law number two of nineteen hundred and twenty-five is hereby amended to read as follows: § 72. Appointment of officers and members of fire department. The chief engineer, assistant engineer, and other paid members of the fire department shall be appointed by the mayor, subject as hereinbefore provided to the approval of the common council. The salary of the chief engineer of the fire department shall be such a sum not exceeding eighteen hundred dollars per annum, payable monthly as may be fixed by the common council. The salaries of all the other members of the paid fire department shall be fixed by the common council.

§ 2. This local law shall take effect immediately.

LOCAL LAW No. 2

A local law amending local law number four of nineteen hundred and twentyfive entitled "A local law amending local law number one of nineteen hundred and twenty-five, entitled 'An act to supersede section eleven of the charter of the city of Plattsburgh and local law number two (nineteen hundred and twenty-four) in relation to the salaries of certain city officers and employees." "

Be it enacted by the common council of the city of Plattsburgh as follows: Section 1. Section eleven of local law number four of nineteen hundred and twenty-five is hereby amended to read as follows: § 11. Compensation of city officers. Members of the board of education, except the clerk, and members of the board of health, shall receive no compensation for their services. The annual salary of the mayor shall be eighteen hundred dollars, six hundred dollars of which shall be paid out of the water fund. The aldermen shall each receive five dollars for each meeting of the common council actually attended, but not in excess of two hundred and fifty dollars each per year. The annual salary of the city judge shall be twelve hundred dollars; the annual salary of the city clerk shall be fixed by the common council at a sum not to exceed

nineteen hundred and twenty dollars, six hundred dollars of which shall be paid out of the water fund; the annual salary of the city chamberlain shall be thirteen hundred and fifty dollars, six hundred dollars of which shall be paid out of the water fund, but he shall receive no fees or additional compensation whatever; the annual salary of the commissioner of charities shall be fixed by the common council at a sum not to exceed six hundred dollars. The annual compensation of each assessor shall be two hundred dollars; the corporation counsel shall receive such annual salary as shall be agreed upon by the common council, not exceeding one thousand dollars; the superintendent of public works shall receive such an annual salary as may be approved by the common council, not exceeding two thousand dollars; the chief of police, an annual salary to be fixed by the common council not to exceed eighteen hundred dollars; the patrolmen, and special policemen shall receive a monthly salary to be fixed by the common council; the supervisors and constables shall be entitled to the same compensation for their services as the corresponding officers in towns are entitled to receive for like service; the inspectors of election and such other officers as are authorized to be appointed, shall receive such compensation as shall be fixed by the common council. Salaried officers by the year or month shall be paid ratably if actual service shall be less than the full term. No other appointive officer of the city shall be entitled to receive from the city any compensation for his services, unless otherwise provided by the city charter or by a general law or a local law. Whenever any police officer or fireman shall have served as patrolman or as chief and patrolman or as chief and fireman for more than five years the common council may, in its discretion, increase the salary of such chief, patrolman or fireman to an amount not exceeding ten per centum of the salary fixed by this act.

§ 2. This local law shall take effect immediately.

CITY OF RENSSELAER

LOCAL LAW No. 1

A local law in relation to elective officers enumerated, their terms of office and compensation.

Became a law December 7, 1927, with the approval of the Mayor. Passed by the local legislative body of the city of Rensselaer.

Be it enacted by the common council of the city of Rensselaer as follows: Section 1. Section twelve of chapter sixty-nine of the laws of the state of New York of nineteen hundred and fifteen entitled "An act to revise the charter of the city of Rensselaer" as amended by chapter eight hundred and sixty-six of the laws of the state of New York of nineteen hundred and twenty entitled "An act to amend the charter of the city of Rensselaer, generally" is hereby superseded and enacted as a local law amended to read as follows:

§ 12. Elective city officers enumerated; their terms of office and compensation. The elective officers of the city to be elected by the electors of the city at large shall be a mayor, whose term of office shall be two years, and whose annual salary shall be not less than twelve hundred dollars to be fixed and determined by the common council; a city clerk whose term of office shall be two years, and whose annual salary shall be not less than twenty-four hundred dollars to be fixed and determined by the common council, a city treasurer whose term of office shall be two years, and whose annual salary shall be not less than twentyfour hundred dollars to be fixed and determined by the common council; a president of the common council whose term of office shall be two years and whose annual salary shall be not less than three hundred and sixty dollars to be fixed and determined by the common council; a city judge whose term of office shall be two years, and whose annual salary shall be not less than twelve hundred and fifty dollars to be fixed and determined by the common council.

The elective officers of the respective supervisor districts herein created shall be one supervisor from each of the supervisor districts herein created, and whose term of office shall be two years, and who shall each receive the same compensation for his services as supervisors of towns are entitled to receive for like services.

The elective officers of the city to be elected by the electors of each ward shall be one alderman, whose term of office shall be two years, and whose annual salary shall be three hundred dollars.

The term of each officer elected at an annual election shall, except as herein otherwise provided, commence on the next official year after such election, viz., the first day of January after his election.

§ 2. This local law shall take effect January first, nineteen hundred and twenty-eight.
