2 3 4 For all Thy saints, O Lord, Who counted Thee their great reward, And strove in Thee to die. They all, in life and death, With Thee their Lord in view, Learned from Thy Holy Spirit's breath For this Thy Name we bless, And live and die in Thee. Amen. 345 "They overcame by the blood of the Lamb.” 1 THE Son of God goes forth to war, His blood-red banner streams afar; Who best can drink His cup of woe, Who patient bears His Cross below, 2 The martyr, first, whose eagle eye He prayed for them that did the wrong: 3 A glorious band, the chosen few Twelve valiant saints, their hope they knew, They bowed their necks the death to feel: 4 A noble army-men and boys, They climbed the steep ascent of heaven, O God! to us may grace be given To follow in their train! Amen. 346 "Blessed are the 1 2 3 pure in heart, for they shall see God." BLEST are the pure in heart, The Lord, Who left the heavens To dwell in lowliness with men, He to the lowly soul Doth still Himself impart; And for His dwelling and His throne Chooseth the pure in heart. 4 Lord, we Thy presence seek; 5 All glory, Lord, to Thee, Whom heaven and earth adore, One God for evermore. Amen. 347 "We are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses." 1 FOR all the saints, who from their labours rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy Name, O Jesu, be for ever blest. Hallelujah! 2 Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress, and their Might; Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their Light of Hallelujah! light. 3 0 may Thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win, with them, the victor's crown of gold. Hallelujah! 4 O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Hallelujah! 5 And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph-song, And hearts are brave again, and arms are Hallelujah! strong. 6 The golden evening brightens in the west ; Soon, soon to faithful warriors comes the rest; Sweet is the calm of Paradise the blest. Hallelujah! 7 But lo, there breaks a yet more glorious day: The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Hallelujah! 8 From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast, Through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, Singing to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Hallelujah! Amen. 348 "Just and true are Thy ways, Thou King of saints." 1 FROM all Thy saints in warfare, for all Thy saints at rest, To Thee, O blessed Jesu, all praises be addressed. Thou, Lord, didst win the battle, that they might conquerors be; Their crowns of living glory are lit with rays from Thee.* * Insert here the special stanza of the Day. Saint Andrew. 2 Praise, Lord, for Thine Apostle, the first to welcome Thee, The first to lead his brother the very Christ to see. With hearts for Thee made ready, watch we throughout the year, Forward to lead our brethren to own Thine Advent near. Saint Thomas. 3 All praise for Thine Apostle, whose shortlived doubtings prove Thy perfect twofold nature, the fulness of Thy love. On all who wait Thy coming shed forth Thy peace, O Lord, And grant us faith to know Thee, true Man, true God, adored. Saint Stephen. 4 Praise for the first of Martyrs, who saw Thee ready stand, To aid in midst of torment, to plead at God's right hand. Share we with him, if summoned by death our Lord to own, On earth the faithful witness, in heaven the martyr-crown. Saint John the Evangelist. 5 Praise for the loved disciple, exile on Patmos' shore; Praise for the faithful record he to Thy Godhead bore; |
