Do not translate the following passage, but answer in order the annexed questions; number your answers.

I Κλέαρχος δ ̓ εἶπε τάδε.

Συμβουλεύω ἐγὼ τὸν ἄνδρα τοῦτον ἐκποδὼν

2 ποιεῖσθαι ὡς τάχιστα, ὡς μηκέτι δέῃ τοῦτον φυλάττεσθαι, ἀλλὰ σχολὴ ᾖ ἡμῖν, 3 τὸ κατὰ τοῦτον εἶναι τοὺς ἐθελοντὰς φίλους εὖ ποιεῖν. ταύτῃ δὲ τῇ γνώμῃ ἔφη καὶ 4 τοὺς ἄλλους προσθέσθαι. μετὰ ταῦτα, ἔφη, κελεύοντος Κύρου ἔλαβον τῆς ζώνης 5 τὸν Ὀρόνταν ἐπὶ θανάτῳ ἅπαντες ἀναστάντες καὶ οἱ συγγενεῖς· εἶτα δ 6 ἐξῆγον αὐτὸν οἷς προσετάχθη. ἐπεὶ δὲ εἶδον αὐτὸν οἵπερ πρόσθεν προσεκύνουν, η καὶ τότε προσεκύνησαν, καίπερ εἰδότες ὅτι ἐπὶ θάνατον ἄγοιτο.

a Decline ἄνδρα (line r) in the plural, συγγενείς (line 5) in the singular. Give in all genders (a) the genitive singular of ráde (line 1), of eidótes (line 7), (6) the genitive plural of ἅπαντες (line 5).

b Compare the adverb τάχιστα (line 2).

c Infect συμβουλεύω (line 1) in the aorist optative active; ποιεῖσθαι (line 2) in the imperfect indicative middle (contracted forms only).

d Give, in the active, the third person singular of ἔλαβον (line 4) in the different moods of the tense here found, including the infinitive and participle.

I Τί μένομεν; ἢ οὐκ ἐπιστάμεθα ὅτι βασιλεὺς ἡμᾶς ἀπολέσαι ἂν περὶ 2 παντὸς ποιήσαιτο, ἵνα καὶ τοῖς ἄλλοις Ἕλλησι φόβος εἴη ἐπὶ βασιλέα 3 μέγαν στρατεύειν; καὶ νῦν μὲν ἡμᾶς ὑπάγεται μένειν διὰ τὸ διεσπάρθαι 4 αὐτῷ τὸ στράτευμα. ἐπὴν δὲ πάλιν ἁλισθῇ αὐτῷ ἡ στρατιά, οὐκ ἔστιν 5 ὅπως οὐκ ἐπιθήσεται ἡμῖν. ἴσως δέ που ἀποσκάπτει τι ἢ ἀποτειχίζει, ὡς 6 ἄπορος ᾗ ἡ ὁδός. οὐ γάρ ποθ' ἑκών γε βουλήσεται ἡμᾶς ἐλθόντας εἰς 7 τὴν Ἑλλάδα ἀπαγγείλαι ὡς ἡμεῖς τοσοίδε ὄντες ἐνικῶμεν βασιλέα 8 ἐπὶ ταῖς θύραις αὐτοῦ καὶ καταγελάσαντες ἀπήλθομεν.

a Decline βασιλεύς (line r) in the plural, στράτευμα, (line 4) in the singular. Give in all genders (α) the dative plural of τι (line 5); of μέγαν (line 3); (b) the genitive plural of ἐλθόντας (line 6).

I Οἶδα μὲν γὰρ ὑμῖν Μυσοὺς λυπηροὺς ὄντας, οὓς νομίζω ἂν σὺν τῇ 2 παρούσῃ δυνάμει ταπεινοὺς ὑμῖν παρασχεῖν· οἶδα δὲ καὶ Πισίδας· ἀκούω δὲ καὶ ἄλλα ἔθνη πολλὰ τοιαῦτα εἶναι, ἃ οἶμαι ἂν παῦσαι 4 ἐνοχλοῦντα ἀεὶ τῇ ὑμετέρᾳ εὐδαιμονίᾳ. i State the rule for the construction of a conditional sentence with a future less vivid supposition, and illustrate this rule by a short example in English with a Greek translation.
