For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. Wherefore, whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

Isa. li, 17. Awake, awake, stand up. O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury: thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

Jer. xvi. 7. Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourn ing, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

Jer. xxv, 15, 17, 28. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me. Take the wine-cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. Ezek. xxiii, 31-33. Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand. Thus saith the Lord GOD, Thou shalt drink of thy sister's cup deep and large: thou shalt be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it containeth much.
