thee. The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Amen.

[Or, if preferred,] I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; and thus receive thee as a member of this Church; and I pronounce upon thee the blessing, which God commanded his servants of old. The Lord bless thee and keep thee; the Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Amen.

FORM OF BAPTISM BY IMMERSION. PASTOR.And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me, in heaven and earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and lo, I am

with you always, unto the end of the world.

Then said Peter unto them, Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words, did he testify and exhort, saying, save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word, were baptized, and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And the Lord added to the church daily of such as should be saved.

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death, that, like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also, should walk in newness

of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

For by one spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one spirit.

HYMN.

PRAYER.

Father of all mercies, and God of all grace; we give thee humble thanks, that thou hast been pleased to reveal thyself unto us, in the Gospel of thy dear Son. We pray, that thou wilt confirm our faith, and strengthen us in the performance of all the duties that are required of us. May we prove ourselves the obedient and faithful subjects of thy kingdom. We pray thee, O Lord, have regard unto thy servant [or servants] who now publicly profess faith and hope in thy mercy and goodness, as revealed in

Jesus Christ, our Lord. Endow him [or them] plenteously, we beseech thee, with all the graces of thy Holy Spirit, and strengthen him [or them] with might, that he [or they] may find deliverance from all trials and temptations, and grow continually in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

PASTOR. [When performing the act of immersion.] A. B., I baptize thee in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, [or in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,] and I pronounce upon thee the blessing which God commanded his servants of old. The Lord bless thee and keep thee; the Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; the Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. Amen.

BENEDICTION.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God our Heavenly Father,

and the communion of his Holy Spirit, be with you all, now and evermore. Amen.

FORM FOR THE COMMUNION, OR THE LORD'S SUPPER.

[The minister will invite to the table all members of other churches, in good standing, and all sincere and devout persons, who would esteem it either a privilege or a duty to unite in celebrating the Saviour's death; and the services may proceed as folfows:]

PASTOR.-He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.

RESPONSE. And we hid, as it were, our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

P.-Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows.

R.-Yet, we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

P.-But he was wounded

for our

transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities.
