and ye shall be children of the Highest; for he is kind unto the unthankful, and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

PRAYER.

O Lord, our Strength and our Redeemer; to thee we look, as to that Being to whom we are indebted for all that we have, and for everything that we may ever hope to be, or to possess. Thou art God, whom giving doth not impoverish, nor withholding make rich. We know that our goodness cannot extend to thee, and we pray that we may strive to manifest our gratitude for all thy blessings, in the promptitude of our benevolence to our unfortunate brethren. O God, open our

hearts, we pray thee; and make our hands active in the relief of the poor, the sick, and the distressed. We bless thee, that thou hast kept us in health, and preserved unto us the use of our faculties; that thou hast spread before us the table of thine earthly bounties, and hast clothed us, of thy goodness. May we be ready to pity and relieve those that are unfortunately deprived of those common blessings of thy providence, so that the hungry shall be fed, the naked clothed, and the needy have reason to bless us. Lord, in much mercy be thou with us, at this time; guide us in the path of duty; prepare us for all that awaits us; and save us at last, with an everlasting salvation, through Him, who, though he was rich, became poor for our sakes. Amen.

SCRIPTURE LESSON VII.

FOR OPENING WHEN OFFICERS ARE ELECTED.

PASTOR.-The Lord is my Shepherd, RESPONSE.-I shall not want.

P. He maketh me to lie down in

green pastures:

R. He leadeth me beside still waters.

P. He restoreth my soul:

R. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness, for his name sake.

P.-Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:

R. For thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

--

P. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

R. And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

P.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion, on the sides of the north; the city of the great King. God is known in her palaces for a refuge. We have thought of thy loving kindness, O God, in the midst of the temple. Walk about Zion, and go round about her; tell the

towers thereof. Mark ye well her bulwarks; consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following. For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide, even unto death.

And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said: Verily, I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever, therefore, shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And call no man your father' upon the earth; for one is your Father which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters; for one is your Master, even Christ, and all ye are brethren. But he that is greatest among you, let him become your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself, shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself, shall be exalted.

And there are differences of adminis tration, but the same Lord. And there

are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the Church-first, apostles; secondarily, prophets; thirdly, teachers; after that, miracles; then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues; that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care one for another. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as it is in all the Churches of the saints.

PRAYER.

Our Father, which art in Heaven; we bless thee for the gift of the Gospel, teaching us our duty to thee and one another, and informing us of thy purposes of grace towards all thy children. We thank thee for every institution founded upon the truth as it is in Jesus, and for every measure by which we may conform our
