C. vi. 3d.

The Sam. reads 8, which is more regular: see instead of

c. v. 21. It appears probable that we should read

, and that we should render the latter part of the verse interrogatively, with Dr Hodges and Ganganelli, (a similar instance to which occurs, Mal. ii. 15,) thus: " and I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty; and by my name Jehovah was not I known unto them?" i. e. I certainly was, as appears from Gen. c. xii. 7, xxviii. 13, xxxii. 9. And this sense suits best with the beginning of v. 6, 7, and 8.

6th. — The Sam. reads, and this is authorised by v. 7.

C. ix. 3d. It is past a doubt that we should read, with the Sam. and one MS. ', and this one instance very clearly proves that the Heb. text is not literally perfect; for no one can justify " on any grounds whatever.
