6th. עבדי Should we not read my servants?" Thirty-eight MSS. read, with the Keri, n, and the final is certainly redundant. See v. 9. 9th. Twelve MSS. read he, as we have it above and elsewhere. .נבאת Seventeen MSS, have 18th. More than one hundred MSS. have here. 23d. Two MSS. have ", which is more grammatical. - C. xxvii. 1st. -It is past a doubt that ', which occurs only eight times in this form, as the learned collator of the MSS. has observed, should be corrected by the one hundred and twenty-one See the Collations. .ירמיהו places in this book, which give 8th. - Ten MSS. have by, which is better; and likewise thirteen 11th, 12th. It is observable that our version neither follows the Hebrew text, nor the Sept. and other versions, which speak of a nation in the singular number, all through the verse. 18th. Three MSS. have n', with the preposition; and so read the Syr. Chald. and Vulg. 21st. Eighteen MSS. have ' n'a, which is necessary; and so the Syr. Chald. and Vulg. read. C. xxviii. 1st. Nineteen MSS. read, with the Keri, ma in the second place. 2d. Fourteen MSS. have by in this place, and as many in v. 4, and twelve in v. 11, and four in v. 14. 13th. Four MSS. have, which is better. For no, see the Gen. Dissert. p. 117. 14th. Sixteen MSS. read y, which is more grammatical. See the Syr. Vulg. and Chald. C. xxix. 1st. 5th. One MS. reads, which is more grammatical, and thus we have it v. 28. Twenty-two MSS. read ", which the construction 19th. Should we not read Dy? See the Syr. 23d. Twenty-two MSS. read, with the Keri, y, which is certainly preferable. 26th. — p, in the plural, is not agreeable to the context; and may it not be right, by transposing the letters, to read Tip, præfectum, as the Sept. and other versions seem to have done? Or, perhaps, the word originally might be 7p. See 2 Kings, xxv. 19. C. xxx. 8th. — Seven MSS. have 1, and should we not read 72 instead of ? See Vatab. Poole's Synopsis. 13th. The commentators are much divided, both with respect to the construction and the sense of these words. (See Poole's Synopsis.) The versions also vary much. Might this be admitted? "There is none to plead thy cause; for to heal the wound there is no cure for thee:" which is very near the sense Calvin has put upon them. 18th. - Might not be be rendered, " its former site. upon its boundaries?” i. c. C. xxxi. 12th. 13th. tical. 21st. 24th. Forty-four MSS. have, which is more gramma Forty-five MSS. have ' in the second place. It might be more agreeable to the context to read "D. See the Vulg. version. 33d. For the important reading of instead of ', see Gen. Dissert. of Collat. sect. 66. 35th. Would it not be still better to read ppm, decernens, or decrevit, appointing, or who hath appointed, the moon, &c.? The Sept. and Ar. omit the word. 38th. Twenty-four MSS. read, with the Keri, Sept. and other versions,, which is certainly requisite. 40th. Twenty-six MSS. read, with the Keri, men, which our version follows. The Sept. retains the word in the text, not understanding the meaning of it; but the prophet probably intended to describe the fruitfulness of the valley of Hinnom and the fields contained in it, notwithstanding its former idolatrous pollutions, as the strongest representation of God's mercy to the Israelites. C. xxxii. 1st. → Twenty MSS. read, with the Keri, nawa. 4th. More than sixty MSS. give, with the Keri, y, which the context justifies.. 9th. More than eighty MSS. read niya, agreeably to the 7th and 8th v. 21st. : this word should be corrected by v. 17. See Gen. Diss. sect. 167, and ten MSS. omit the . 23d. Thirty MSS. at least, read, with the Keri, 7 in the singular, but the Sept. translates according to the present text. 35th. Twenty-three MSS. have on, which is agreeable to the Keri, and is more regular. See 1 Kings, 14, 16, &c. 37th. - Two MSS. have, in the second place, 'na; and, if we compare Hosea ii. 20, (which is the 18th verse in our Eng. vers.) with this passage, and consider, likewise, that the word standing in the present text had been used, immediately before, in a something different sense, 1 sense, it will appear most probable that we should read, with those two MSS." and I will make them to lie down safely." C. xxxiii. 2d. It is certain that the second is quite redundant, and that there is a word wanting to complete the sense, which the Sept. and the Ar. have supplied, and we should, with them, read 8, or יהוה instead of האדמה 5th. - I think, with the learned Dr Lowth and Lud. de Dieu, that the first in this verse must be considered as the sign of the nominative case, which is not unusual when it precedes verbs passive or neuter, see Buxtorff, unless we might read, and render it thus : "the Chaldeans come to fight with her," i. e. the city mentioned before; and we have the preposition used in this sense after the infinitive 1 Sam. c. xvii. 9. n. - Fifty MSS. read 71, which the grammatical construc 6th. tion requires. The seems to be wanting before ", " and in the cities." 13th. Nineteen MSS. have the before the second so read the Vulg. Ch. and Sept. 15th. For the important addition to be made of the three words, bob, which are found in twenty-five MSS. and, likewise, והשכיל c. xxiii. 5. See Gen. Dissert. of the Collation of the MSS. It is observable, likewise, that three MSS. have pT3, as in c. xxiii. and the Sept reads so. |
