This story encompasses two novelettes based upon oral histories which recount the origin, life and times of persons who believe they are the African-American descendants of two notable families, that of James Monroe, 5th President of the United States and the British family which founded the Imperial Tobacco Company - the Wills family. The stories provide an insider glimpse into an African-American view of various events which have transpired through the periods of history covered in the book. Along the way, the reader is treated to bits of western historical events intertwined to occur within the day to day lives of the characters in the story.
