3 In wonder lost, with trembling joy
We take the pardon of our GOD,
Pardon for crimes of deepest dye,
A pardon bought with JESUS' blood:
Who is a pardoning GOD like Thee?
Or who has grace so rich and free?

4 O may this strange, this matchless grace,
This God-like miracle of love,

Fill the wide earth with grateful praise,
And all the angelic choirs above:
Who is a pardoning GOD like Thee?
Or who has grace so rich and free?

Samuel Davies,

1724-1761.

FOR

OR the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies,

LORD of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise!

2 For the joy of ear and eye,

For the heart and mind's delight,
For the mystic harmony

Linking sense to sound and sight,
LORD of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise!

3 For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
Pleasures pure and undefiled,
LORD of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise!

4 For Thyself, best gift divine
To our race so freely given!
For that great, great love of Thine,
Peace on earth, and joy in heaven,
LORD of all, to Thee we raise
This our hymn of grateful praise!

John Pierpont,

1785-1866.

LOVE of GOD, how strong and true!
Eternal, and yet ever new,
Uncomprehended and unbought,
Beyond all knowledge and all thought.

2 O wide-embracing, wondrous Love,
We read thee in the sky above,

We read thee in the earth below,

In seas that swell and streams that flow.

3 We read thee in the flowers, the trees,
The freshness of the fragrant breeze,
The songs of birds upon the wing,
The joy of summer and of spring.

4

We read thee best in Him Who came
To bear for us the cross of shame,

Sent by the FATHER from on high,
Our life to live, our death to die.

5 0 Love of GOD, our shield and stay
Through all the perils of our way;
Eternal Love, in thee we rest,
For ever safe, for ever blest.

THE

HE GOD of Abraham praise
Who reigns enthroned above,

Ancient of everlasting days,
And GOD of love-

JEHOVAH, great I AM,

By earth and heaven confest;
I bow, and bless the sacred Name,
For ever blest.

2 The GOD of Abraham praise,
At Whose supreme command
From earth I rise, and seek the joys
At His right hand;

I all on earth forsake,

Its wisdom, fame, and power,
And Him my only portion make,
My shield and tower.

The GOD of Abraham praise,
Whose all-sufficient grace
Shall guide me all my happy days
In all my ways;

He calls a worm His friend, He calls Himself my GOD! And He will save me to the end, Through JESUS' blood.

He by Himself hath sworn,
I on His oath depend,

I shall on eagles' wings upborne
To heaven ascend;

I shall behold His face,

I shall His power adore,

And sing the wonders of His grace
For evermore.

Before the Saviour's face
The ransomed nations bow,

O'erwhelmed at His almighty grace

For ever new;

He shows His prints of love;
They kindle to a flame,

And sound through all the world above
The slaughtered LAMB.

6 The whole triumphant host Give thanks to GOD on high,

"Hail, FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST!"

They ever cry:

Hail, Abraham's GOD and mine!

I join the heavenly lays;

All might and majesty are Thine,

And endless praise!

Thomas Olivers,

1725-1799.

ET us with a gladsome mind

Praise the LORD, for He is kind,
For His mercies aye endure,

Ever faithful, ever sure.

2 He with all-commanding might
Filled the new-made world with light,
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

3 Caused the golden-tressèd sun
All day long his course to run,
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

4 And the moon to shine by night
'Mongst her spangled sisters bright,
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

5 All things living He doth feed,
His full hand supplies their need,
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

6 He hath with a piteous eye
Looked upon our misery,

For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

7 Let us therefore warble forth
His might, majesty, and worth;
For His mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.
