The West Bengal State Cooperative Bank Ltd(WBSCB) is one of the oldest cooperative bank in the country transformed itself from a small society to a scheduled bank. Banking sector across the world including India witnessed continual regulatory and technological changes during the last few decades. Financial liberalization has a beneficial effect on bank behavior by increasing competition, lowering intermediation costs and improving loan quality. One of the objective of the book is to analyse the borrowing, investment and lending pattern of WBSCB during pre and post liberalisation period and would also be investigated whether there is any significant changes in between these two periods, appraise the financial performance and also to make a comparative study of the performance during pre and post liberalization era, study the NPA management with respect to prudential norms of RBI during the post liberalization era , ascertain how profitably and efficiently the apex cooperative bank in the state is making use of its total assets , enquire factors that influence the performance, study the preparedness against the backdrop of globalisation and Basel norms.
