COMMENDATIONS OF THE WORK.

THE CHRISTIAN REVIEW is the leading exponent of the doctrines, polity, and measures of the Baptists of the United States; and in literary and critical ability among the ablest reviews in our country. It is well worthy the patronage of all Baptists. Its contents are all original, and no pains are spared to secure the highest degree of talent and learning in the denomination.-Western Watchman, St. Louis. "The friends of sacred literature must feel proud of this Quarterly."-Family Mag. of Lit., Art, and Science.

"It seems more and more to be an indispensable companion in the professional labors of the ministry, as well as an inestimably entertaining and useful journal for family and private reading. I cannot do without it."-Rev. J. N. TOLMAN.

"It is the only Baptist Quarterly, furnishes much valuable reading, and is worthy of extensive patronage."-Religious Herald, Richmond.

"The articles are able and scholarly; and the critical and popular are judiciously blended."—Christian Herald, Detroit.

"As is its custom, a rich variety of matter is presented to the reader. A decided improvement is seen in the mechanical department of this able Quarterly, in each succeeding number."— Western Recorder, Louisville, Ky.

SPECIAL

NOTICE.

INDEX TO THE CHRISTIAN REVIEW.

It is proposed to publish, if sufficient encouragement is given, a full Index to the first twenty-one volumes of the Christian Review. The work will include an index of Subjects and Topics, and an index of Authors, with the titles of their works, as reviewed or noticed throughout the several volumes of the REVIEW; thus giving to the whole series the character of an extensive and valuable Literary and Theological Encyclopædia.

The proposed Index will be an octavo volume, about the size of the REVIEW, and of about five hundred pages-the price to be as low as the necessarily limited sale of the work will allow-say from $2 to $3.

This desirable and highly important work is entrusted to one who is every way qualified for the task, and who will spare no labor requisite to make the volume a valuable addition to our select literature.

All who wish to subscribe for the work are requested to send on their names to the Office of the CHRISTIAN REVIEW, Post Office, Box 3801, New York, as early as possible. Should the number of subscribers justify the undertaking, the work may be expected during the early part of next year.

N. B. The exchanges of the CHRISTIAN REVIEW will confer a favor by calling attention to this advertisement.
