REPORT.

THE COUNCIL OF MILITARY EDUCATION have the honour to submit to His Royal Highness the Field-Marshal Commanding-in-Chief the following Report of the Competitive Examination for Admission to the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, which was held at Chelsea Hospital between the 4th and 20th January, 1864.

The Conditions of the Examination were those embodied in the Regulations dated Horse Guards, 5th May, 1862, a copy of which is appended.

The number of Candidates who notified their intention of presenting themselves for Examination was 152, of whom 144 actually attended on the 4th January. Three of these were rejected by the Medical Board.

Of the remaining 141 Candidates, 92 were found qualified in every respect, and the names of the 40 highest on the List were submitted to His Royal Highness on the 26th January.

The Council consider this to be one of the most successful Examinations that have been held, not only on
