In the former, or the difiinfi fmall pox, the eruptive fever ls moderate, and appears to be evidently of the inflammatory kind, or what we name a Synocha. It generally Comes on about mid day, with fome fymptoms Of a cold Rage, and commonly with a confiderable lan gnor and drowfinels. A hot flage is foon formed, and becomes more confiderable on the fecond and third days. During this courie, children are liable to frequent flartings from their flumbers and adults, if they are kept abed, are difpofed to much fweating. On the third day, children are fometimes af fetted with one or two epileptic fits. To. Wards the end Of the third day, the eruption commonly appears, and gradually increafes during the fourth appearing firft upon the face, and fucceflively on the inferior parts, fo as to be completed over the whole body on the fifth day.
