make the houses they live in, but I have to make my own house. I do all the work with my claws.

I hunt and fish for a living. I hunt in the sand for bugs and flies,

and I hunt under the ground for

worms.

Sometimes I see a fish that I would like to eat. When he comes near me, I catch him with my big claw. How do I catch bugs and flies? I jump at them and catch them as a cat catches mice. Then I put them in my house to eat when I can not go out.

You know now what I like to eat; but do you know that crabs are good for food? Do you know that birds and fish feed on crabs, and that little boys and girls eat them, too?

When a bad boy catches me by one of my claws, and will not let go, I drop the claw and run. Then I hide till a new one grows.

I keep on growing, but my shell does not grow. When I get too big

for my shell, I take it off, and a new one grows in a few days.

LANGUAGE LESSON.

(To the Teacher: Let the children read these sentences with the blanks filled with the proper form of know. E.g., me a long time. He has known me a long

Yesterday I
