he not look like a doctor? He has put on Papa's big hat."

"How do you do, Mary?" said Fred. "Is some one sick here ?"

"Yes, Doctor, my doll is sick. She is not at all strong. She can not eat, and she does not rest at night. What shall I do for her?"

"Let me see her tongue," said Fred.

"You must give her warm milk, and keep her in bed all day.

"Do you take her out when it is cold?" said the doctor.

"No, Doctor, I take her out on warm days.

"Do you think she will die?" said Mary.

"No, if you take her out in the air often, and she rests well at night, I know she will not die."

"Thank you, Doctor. When my doll is stronger, I shall take her to see you."

THE MOUSE SEES THE WORLD.

"Mother, I am going out to see the world," said a little mouse one day.

66 'If you go away, you will not come back," said his mother.

"How do you know that, Mother?" "The world is so big that you will be lost," said she.

"Well, Mother, I'd like to see how big it is."

On his way he saw a cow.

"What

a big mouse you are!" he said. But the cow only looked at him.

Then he met a big dog. “Are you a mouse, too?" he said to the dog. But the dog barked and growled at him.

Going on, he saw a mouse with three legs.

"How is it that you have three legs?" said the little mouse.

"A bad boy put some cheese in a box, and when I tried to get it I lost a leg."

Then he saw a man coming out of a barn.

"That is not a mouse," said the

little one.

"He has only two legs."

The man tried to catch the mouse, but the mouse got away.

"I shall go back to my mother,” said the little mouse. "I do not like being out in the world; there are too many big mice in it. My mother knows what is best for me, after all."
