hearest prayer, I would now, oh Lord my Maker. near to thee in singleness and simplicity of heart, trusting alone in Jesus for acceptance, and let thy Holy Spirit be with me, to teach and help me to pray. Be with me, oh God, in all places and upon all occasions. Let thy blessing be with all I do, and thy wisdom direct all I say and think. Thou knowest the secrets of my heart, and my faults are not hid from thee. Teach me to know thein also, and forgive me, I beseech thee, if I have in any thing been proud, selfish, envious, or disobedient. Lord, may I not only cease from doing evil, but may I also learn to do well. Send down the influences of the Holy Spirit upon me, and enable me earnestly and sincerely to do my duty to thee, my neighbour, and myself. Grant

that I may always speak the exact and perfect truth, and guard me from anger, ill-temper, and discontent. Lord, my

heart by nature is proud, uncharitable, carnal, unholy. Make me, I pray thee, meek and lowly as my blessed Saviour, poor in spirit, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. May I mourn for sin, that I may be comforted. by thee. May I hunger and thirst after righteousness, that I may be filled. May I be merciful, that

If there be that hate me, may I do good to them if any that despitefully use me or persecute me, may I pray for them, that I may be the child of our Father which is in heaven, for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on

Oh God, bless all who are dear to me; keep them, if it be thy good pleasure, in health and safety, and if it be not, enable me to say, not my will, but thine be done. me, under every dispensation, an entire resignation to thine all-perfect wisdom; support me by thy heavenly favor; and thou, oh Holy Spirit, who didst descend with such mighty power on the first followers of our blessed Redeemer, vouchsafe, for his sake, to rest upon my heart. Bear with my imperfections, comfort me in sorrow, guide me in life, and sustain me in that hour when I shall stand in so much need of thee, when death shall separate me from this scene of trial, and when, if I humbly do thy will, I may hope to rise to everlasting happiness, through the merits of Christ Jesus our blessed Saviour. Amen.

A PRAYER ON ENTERING CHURCH.

GRACIOUS GOD, from whom alone are the preparations of the heart, vouchsafe, I beseech thee, to make thyself present to my soul. Blessed Jesus, be with me in this thy house of prayer. Oh God, enable me to remember that I come to appear before thee, and help me to withdraw my thoughts from every thing but thee. Give me grace to hear and receive thy holy word to the salvation of my soul, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER BEFORE LEAVING CHURCH.

OH THOU high and holy One that inhabitest eternity, grant that the words which I have now heard may take deep root and bring forth much fruit. Help me to be

a doer of thy word, and not a hearer only. My own resolutions are frail and uncertain; do thou, oh God, confirm and establish me in all that is good. Pardon whatsoever has been amiss in my service in this holy place, and bring me at last to thy kingdom of glory, for the sake of the Son of thy love, Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

A PRAYER BEFORE CONFIRMATION.

OH THOU, the Father of lights, and the God of all wisdom, I would see and acknowledge, while I endeavour to use every means of preparing for this sacred rite of confirmation, that thou must give the blessing or all is vain. The preparation of the heart is from the Lord. must open my darkened understanding, or I see not my sins; thou must affect my
