SATURDAY MORNING.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. PROV. XV. 3.

OH GOD, my heavenly Father, my Almighty Protector, again at the return of day are my thanksgivings due unto thee, for thy watchful care during the hours of darkness. I laid me down in peace and slept, for thou sustainedst me. I awake in health and vigour, and my heart shall ascend unto thee in gratitude and praise. I desire now again to commit myself into thy hands. I implore the grace of thy holy Spirit through the day on which I am entered. Enlighten, direct, comfort, sanctify, and preserve me. Give me that inward circumcision of the heart, whose praise is not of man, but of God. Make me upright and sincere in all my dealings,

so stedfast and immoveable in the ways of truth and justice, that no worldly advantage, how promising or great soever, may be able to shake my integrity. Grant that I may be humble and patient in my temper, kind and obliging to all around me. Help me to understand and enable me rightly to fulfil the duties of my station, and make me cheerfully resigned to whatever thou shalt think best for me. Conscious of the many errors I am continually committing, I would earnestly implore thy pardon for whatsoever I have done amiss. Give me unfeigned repentance towards thee, and saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Sprinkle me with his precious blood from all the guilt of my sins, both original and actual; clothe me with his righteousness unto justification, and grant me that sanctification of spirit, without which no man can see the

Lord. Make me, even me, thy child, that I, believing in thy beloved Son, may rejoice in thee, my heavenly Father. My God, I know that thou dost see all that I do, thou knowest all that I say or feel. Thine eye will be upon me this day, and I pray that I may not forget that thou dost behold me; I pray that I may rejoice that thou dost see in secret. Bless, gracious Lord, my dear

and impress upon my heart the duties I owe them. Comfort and succour all who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity. Be the Father of the fatherless and the God of the widow, and do for all of us more than we can ask or think, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen. Our Father, &c.

SATURDAY EVENING.

When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. MAT. VI. 6.

LORD, thou art the Holy One of Israel, whose name is holy, and who dwellest in the high and holy place. Give me grace to draw nigh unto thee, and do thou, heavenly Father, draw nigh to me and bless me. In thy mercy, thou hast preserved me through another day and another week. My life, my health, my comforts, are all continued to me, and I am again permitted to approach thy throne of grace. What shall I render unto thee, oh Lord, for these thy benefits? Let my soul bless thee, let all that is within

When I re

me praise thy holy name. collect thy mercy and goodness to me ever since I had a being, my soul should be filled with love and gratitude; but, Lord, I have reason to confess that my heart is oftentimes cold and insensible. I have cause to lament my frailties, my faults, and imperfections. Merciful Father, for the sake of thy beloved Son, forgive me all that is past, and make me more grateful and obedient to thee in future. Oh Lord, my Saviour, thou hast assured us that God will give the Holy Spirit to them who ask him. Oh, that I may ask in the faith of thy word, nothing doubting. My God, hear me; send down upon me abundantly thy heavenly blessing, enabling me to subdue every unholy temper-to discharge every duty in sincerity and in truth. Help me to be constantly striving after a greater conformity to my Saviour's
