of thee, my

our Lord. Dispose and enable me on this sacred day to abstain from every employment which is unsuited to holy time, and give me grace to prepare for that day when I shall be summoned into the Maker and my presence God. Oh Jesus, look down upon me in love, and help me to learn of thee. Do thou reign in my heart, and guide me in the path which leads to heaven. Enable me to understand thy word, that I may grow in grace and in the knowledge of thyself, by whom alone I can be saved. And when thou shalt come at the last day to gather thy children together, may I be of the number of those whose sins are blotted out and who shall appear at thy right hand with joy. The mercies and blessings which I ask for myself, I heartily desire for all who are dear to me, and I humbly beseech thee for all sorts and

conditions of men, that thou wouldest be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations. Oh heavenly Father, do thou guide us all in this present life, and receive us at last into those happy regions which thou hast prepared for them that love. thee, for the sake of thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has taught and commanded us when we pray, to say:

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

SUNDAY EVENING.

Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary. I am the Lord. LEV. XXVI. 2.

Give

ALMIGHTY GOD, who hast been graciously pleased to preserve me through this day, accept my evening sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving for all thy goodness and loving kindness unto me. me grace, oh holy Father, to remember all the good instructions with which I have this day been blessed, and a willing mind, that I may observe and practise them. Merciful God, pardon my offences, for iniquity cleaves even to my holy things. Forgive the wanderings of my thoughts, and all that I have said or done amiss. Lord, I feel my own insufficiency; assist me by thy Holy Spirit to do the thing that pleaseth thee, that I

may be always growing wiser and better, labouring to be more devoted to thy service, more abundant in meekness and humility, in patience, charity, and every thing that is good and acceptable to thee, that so it may be seen that I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, and may excite others to glorify-not thy frail and erring child, oh Lord, but thee, my heavenly Father. Thou hast promised, oh God, that those who sincerely ask of thee shall not ask in vain. Enable me so to ask that I may obtain. Oh call me out of my natural state of sin and death, and translate me into the kingdom of thy dear Son. Defend me from the snares and temptations of the world; root out of my heart every proud and sinful thought, and aid me by thy strength to perform the duties which I owe to thee, my neighbour, and myself. Extend thy

mercy to all mankind. May the king thou hast set over us reign in righteousness, and may all in authority under him have wisdom to act for the nation's good and hearts devoted to thy glory. Let thy blessing rest abundantly upon all those whom thou hast set apart to minister in holy things. May the good seed of the word take deep root and bring forth much fruit. May that word, through thy gracious providence, be communicated to all who have hitherto been destitute of the heavenly treasure, and may they receive it in love and gratitude to the salvation of their souls. Bring into the way of truth, I humbly beseech thee, all such as have erred and are deceived. Relieve and comfort those who are in any kind of affliction. Bless my dear
