This very curious volume is illustrated with a map of Japan, and with up-
wards of eighty plates representing the various methods by which the
Missionaries were barbarously put to death. Certainly no mission was
ever persevered with in the face of such murderous opposition as that
by which the Jesuits were met at Japan.
