MDCXCIX. 1 SIR, WE have perufed the Book you fent us, Entituled, An Account of the Societies for Reformation of Manners;. the Defign of which is fo truly Great and Noble, fo much for the Honour of God, the Advancement of Piety and Virtue, and the publick Good both of Church and State, that it cannot fail of being approved by all good Men. The Method likewife propofed, in order to the Promoting and Accomplish- ing the faid Defign, is, We conceive, moft proper, and (by the Bleffing of God attending it) moft likely to prove effectual. Our Request therefore is, That the faid Book: may may be speedily made Publick, and difperfed into all Parts of the Nation, to the end that good Men of all Ranks and Qualities may be thereby excited to contribute their best Endeavours in their refpective Places and Stations towards a National Reformation of Manners.
