7.7.7.7.7.7.

1HRIST, Whose glory fills the skies, Christ, the true, the only Light,

Sun of Righteousness, arise,

Triumph o'er the shades of night;
Dayspring from on high, be near,
Daystar, in my heart appear.
2 Dark and cheerless is the morn,
Unaccompanied by Thee;
Joyless is the day's return

Till Thy mercy's beams I see,
Till they inward light impart,
Glad my eyes, and warm my heart.
3 Visit then this soul of mine;

Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
Fill me, Radiancy Divine ;
Scatter all my unbelief;

More and more Thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day.

COME

YOME, Thou bright and morning Star,
Light of light, without beginning,
Shine upon us from afar,

That we may be kept from sinning;
Drive away, by Thy clear light,
Our dark night.

As the soft refreshing dew
Falls on drooping herb and flower,

Let Thy Spirit shed anew

Life on every wearied power;

Bless Thy flock from Thy rich store,
Evermore.

Let Thy love's pure fire destroy
All our earthly taint and leaven,
Kindling love and holy joy
With the dawning eastern heaven;
Let us truly rise ere yet

Life has set.

Ah! Thou Day-star from on high,
Grant that at Thy next appearing,
We, who in the grave do lie,
May arise, Thy summons hearing,
And rejoice in our new life,
Far from strife.

Light us to those heavenly spheres,
Sun of Grace, in glory shrouded;
Lead us through this vale of tears,
To the land where days unclouded,
Purest joy and perfect peace,

Never cease.

1 ПORTH in Thy name, O Lord, I go,
My daily labour to pursue;
Thee, only Thee, resolved to know
In all I think, or speak, or do.

2 The task Thy wisdom hath assigned
Oh let me cheerfully fulfil;

In all my works Thy presence find,
And prove Thy good and perfect will.
3 Thee may I set at my right hand,
Whose eyes my inmost substance see;
And labour on at Thy command,
And offer all my works to Thee.

4 Give me to bear Thy easy yoke,
And every moment watch and pray ;
And still to things eternal look,
And hasten to Thy glorious day.
5 Fain would I still for Thee employ
Whate'er Thy bounteous grace hath given,
And run my course with even joy,
And closely walk with Thee to heaven.
6 To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The God whom heaven and earth adore,
From men and from the angel-host
Be praise and glory evermore.

L. M.

LORY to Thee who safe hast kept

And hast refreshed me while I slept;
Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake,
I may of endless life partake.

2 I would not wake, nor rise again,
E'en heaven itself I would disdain,
Wert Thou not there to be enjoyed,
And I in hymns to be employed.

3 Heaven is, dear Lord, where'er Thou art;
Oh never then from me depart;

For to my soul 'tis hell to be

But for one moment without Thee. 4 Lord, I my vows to Thee renew, Scatter my sins as morning dew; Guard my first springs of thought and will, And with Thyself my spirit fill.

5 Direct, control, suggest this day
All I design or do or say;

That all my powers with all their might
In Thy sole glory may unite.

LORD of my life! oh may Thy praise
Employ my noblest powers,
Whose goodness lengthens out my days,
And fills the circling hours!

2 Preserved by Thy Almighty arm,
I passed the shades of night,
Serene and safe from every harm,
And see returning light.

3 Death's likeness, o'er my features spread,
On me in blessings came;
For Thou wast still about my bed,
To watch my helpless frame.

4 Oh may the same Almighty care
My waking hours attend,
From every danger, every snare,
My heedless steps defend!

5 Smile on my minutes as they roll,
And guide my future days;
And let Thy goodness fill my soul
With gratitude and praise!

1 EW every morning is the love
Our wakening and uprising prove;

Through sleep and darkness safely brought,
Restored to life and power and thought.

2 New mercies, each returning day,
Hover around us while we pray;
New perils past, new sins forgiven,

New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.

8

3 If on our daily course our mind
Be set to hallow all we find,

New treasures still, of countless price,
God will provide for sacrifice.

4 The trivial round, the common task,
Will furnish all we need to ask,
Room to deny ourselves, a road
To bring us daily nearer God.
5 Only, O Lord, in Thy dear love,
Fit us for perfect rest above:
And help us, this and every day,
To live more nearly as we pray.

C. M.

1 THROUGH all the dangers of the night,
Preserved, O Lord, by Thee,

Again we hail the cheerful light,
Again we bow the knee.

2 Preserve us, Lord, throughout the day,
And guide us by Thine arm;
For they are safe, and only they,
Whom Thou preserv'st from harm.

3 Let all our words and all our ways
Declare that we are Thine,

That so the light of truth and grace
Before the world may shine.

4 Let us ne'er turn away from Thee;
O Saviour, hold us fast,
Till with unclouded eyes we see
Thy glorious face at last.
