Every pang and bitter throe,
Finishing Thy life of woe?

3 Who but Thou had dared to drain,
Steeped in gall, the cup of pain;
And with tender body bear

Thorns and nails and piercing spear?
4 Thence poured forth the water flowed,
Mingled from Thy side with blood;
Sign to all attesting eyes

Of the finished sacrifice.
5 Holy Jesus, grant us grace
In that sacrifice to place
All our trust for life renewed,
Pardoned sin, and promised good.
Easter.

7.7.7.7.

YHRIST the Lord is risen to-day," Sons of men and angels say; Raise your songs of triumph high; Sing, ye heavens; thou earth, reply. 2 Love's redeeming work is done, Fought the fight, the battle won ; Lo! the sun's eclipse is o'er; Lo! he sets in blood no more. 3 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Christ hath burst the gates of hell; Death in vain forbids His rise; Christ hath opened Paradise. 4 Lives again our glorious King! Where, O death, is now thy sting? Once He died our souls to save; Where's thy victory, O grave?

5 Soar we now where Christ hath led,
Following our exalted Head;
Made like Him, like Him we rise;
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies.
6 Glory to the Father, Son,
Holy Spirit, Three in One,
As it was, is now, shall be,
In His own eternity.

COME

8. 8. 6. 8. 8. 6.

YOME, see the place where Jesus lay,
And hear angelic watchers say
"He lives, who once was slain :
Why seek the living midst the dead?
Remember how the Saviour said
That He would rise again."

2 Oh joyful sound! Oh glorious hour,
When by His own almighty power
He rose, and left the grave!
Now let our songs His triumph tell,
Who burst the bands of death and hell,
And ever lives to save.

3 The first-begotten of the dead,
For us He rose, our glorious Head,
Immortal life to bring;

What though the saints, like Him, shall die,
They share their Leader's victory,

And triumph with their King.
4 No more they tremble at the grave,
For Jesus will their spirits save,
And raise their slumbering dust:
O risen Lord, in Thee we live,
To Thee our ransomed souls we give,
To Thee our bodies trust.

TESUS lives! no longer now

JESU

Can thy terrors, death, appal us;

Jesus lives! by this we know

Thou, O grave, canst not enthral us. Alleluia

2 Jesus lives! henceforth is death

But the gate of life immortal;

This shall calm our trembling breath,

When we pass its gloomy portal.

3 Jesus lives! for us He died;
Then, alone to Jesus living,
Pure in heart may we abide,
Glory to our Saviour giving.

Alleluia

Alleluia!

4 Jesus lives our hearts know well

Nought from us His love shall sever;

Life nor death nor powers of hell
Tear us from His keeping ever.

THE

THE Saviour lives, no more to die;
He lives, the Lord enthroned on high
He lives, triumphant o'er the grave;
He lives, eternally to save.

2 He lives, to still His people's fears ;
He lives, to wipe away their tears;
He lives, their mansions to prepare ;
He lives, to bring them safely there.

3 Ye mournful saints, dry up your tears,
Dismiss your unbelieving fears,

And let your hearts with joy revive
Jesus, your Saviour, is alive.

Who victory o'er the grave hath won,
And to the Holy Ghost, be given

3 Lo the heaven its Lord receives,
Yet He loves the earth He leaves;
Though returning to His throne,
Still He calls mankind His own.
4 See, He lifts His hands above ;
See, He shows the prints of love;
Hark, His gracious lips bestow.
Blessings on His Church below.
5 Still for us He intercedes,

His prevailing death He pleads,
Near Himself prepares our place,
He the first-fruits of our race.

10 SAVIOUR, who for man hast trod

The winepress of the wrath of God,
Ascend, and claim again on high
Thy glory, left for us to die.

2 A radiant cloud is now Thy seat,
And earth lies stretched beneath Thy feet;
Ten thousand thousands round Thee sing,
And share the triumph of their King.

3 The angel-host enraptured waits:
"Lift up your heads, eternal gates!"
O God-and-Man! the Father's throne
Is now for evermore Thine own.

4 Our great High-priest and Shepherd, Thou Within the veil art entered now,

To offer there Thy precious blood,
Once poured on earth a cleansing flood.

5 And thence the Church, Thy chosen bride,
With countless gifts of grace supplied,
Through all her members draws from Thee
Her hidden life of sanctity.

6 O Christ, our Lord, of Thy dear care,
Thy lowly members heavenward bear;
Be ours with Thee to suffer pain,
With Thee for evermore to reign.

7 All praise from every heart and tongue
To Thee, ascended Lord, be sung;

All praise to God the Father be,
And Holy Ghost, eternally.
